HADLEY, Mass. – Middlebury's Rose Evans and Wesleyan's Julia Meehan have been named to the 2021-22 CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's Soccer Team.
The teams are selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) members and recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. All of the All-America selections advanced to the ballot after earning Academic All-District honors. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at the institution.
Evans, a junior is the first player from the Middlebury women's soccer program to earn the honor. She boasts a 4.00 GPA as a double major in English & American Literature, along with Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies.
A defender, she was part of a unit that posted nine shutouts and a goals against average of 0.96. In the NESCAC Tournament, Evans scored once and added an assist. In the title match, she netted the Panther's lone goal in a 1-1 tie versus Wesleyan, as Middlebury claimed the 2021 NESCAC title following a penalty kick shootout.
Overall, Evans started 16 of the 19 games she played in and was fifth on the team in scoring with three goals and seven points. Middlebury finished the season with a record of 13-4-3, claiming the conference championship and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Meehan, a senior, is the first three-time Academic All-American in Wesleyan's history. She was a First Team honoree in 2020-21 and a Third Team selection in 2019-20. A defender, she is one of four student-athletes who achieved Academic All-America First Team honors while sporting a 4.00 undergraduate GPA. Meehan is currently writing her thesis and is set to graduate in January 2022 with a bachelor's degree as an economics major with a minor in data analysis.
A First Team All-NESCAC selection in 2021, Meehan was also presented with the NCAA Elite 90 Award at the NCAA Championship Finals site as the player among the final four teams with the highest cumulative GPA.
Meehan posted career-highs across the board in 2021. She missed just one game in four years and finished her career as the program's all-time leader in games played (68). She contributed seven points (one goal, five assists) on the season as she helped the Cardinals reach the NCAA Final Four in their NCAA Tournament debut.
