HADLEY, Mass. – Tufts junior center Luke Rogers is the NESCAC Player of the Year as selected by the league's coaches. Rogers scored 25 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to help the top-seeded Jumbos win their first NESCAC Championship in program history with a 102-94 double-overtime win over No. 2 Colby in the final at Cousens Gymnasium. Rogers is the first Tufts player to be named Player of the Year and he is the third straight junior to collect the honor. He ranks fourth among the league’s scoring leaders (16.6 ppg) and leads the conference in rebounding (11.9 rpg). Tufts received the NESCAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by virtue of winning the NESCAC title and will host first and second rounds games on March 6-7.
Colby first-year Will King (Glenview, Ill.) is the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. King was instrumental in helping the Mules advance to the semifinals and championship game. He posted career-highs of 32 points and 11 rebounds in Colby's 102-94 triple-overtime victory over Bates in the quarterfinal round. King is the second straight Mule to garner the Rookie of the Year honor, joining teammate Noah Tyson. King has started all 27 games and leads the team in assists (5.6 apg) while chipping in 9.5 points per game. The Mules, who earned an at-large bid, will travel to Hoboken, N.J. to take on Christopher Newport at Stevens in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Trinity senior Kyle Padmore (Milton, Mass.) is the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year. He is the third Bantam to earn the honor, joining Aaron Westbooks (2008) and Ed Ogundeko (2016). Padmore helped Trinity earn the No. 4 seed in the NESCAC Tournament and advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2017. He started all 26 games this season and led the team in assists (4.5 apg) and steals (1.2 pg) while ranking third in scoring (11.4 ppg).
Bob Sheldon was voted as the NESCAC Coach of the Year by his peers after leading Tufts to its first NESCAC title. Sheldon, the all-time winningest coach at Tufts, garners the honor for the first time in his 32-year career at the helm of the Jumbos.
