HADLEY, Mass. – The NESCAC has announced the 2016-17 Men’s Swimming and Diving All-Conference Team. The top three finishers in each event at the 2017 NESCAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships received all-conference recognition.
Senior Benjamin Lin (Short Hills, N.J.) of Williams was named Swimmer of the Year for the second straight season and was also recognized as the Four Year High Point Swimmer. Lin won three individual events and was part of one winning relay team and two other relays that finished as runner-up. Lin set a pool record on his way to winning the 50-yard backstroke. He added a meet and pool mark in the 100-yard butterfly and also set a meet and pool record in the 100 backstroke as the lead-off leg of the 400 medley relay. Lin closed out his individual performance with a NESCAC, meet, and pool record in the 200-yard backstroke. Lin swam the anchor leg for the Ephs’ first-place 400-yard freestyle relay that posted a pool record. He also led off the 200-yard medley and was the second leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay teams that placed second in those events. Lin is the 11th Eph to earn Swimmer of the Year honors and be recognized as the Four Year High Point Swimmer. He is also just the third swimmer to earn multiple Swimmer of the Year honors.
Tufts senior Matthew Rohrer (Katonah, N.Y.) was named the NESCAC Diver of the Year for the second time in three years. He was also recognized as the Four Year High Point Diver. Rohrer won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events to help the Jumbos finish third overall. Rohrer is the sixth Tufts diver to be honored as Diver of the Year and the fourth Jumbo to earn Four Year High Point Diver honors.
Andrew Trunsky (Birmingham, Mich.) of Williams was named Rookie of the Year, becoming the second Eph to earn the honor. Trunsky won both the 1,000 and 1,650-yard freestyle events in his NESCAC Championship debut.
Carlos Vega of Trinity was chosen as the Swimming Coach of the Year for the first time in his career and is the first Trinity coach to win the honor. Vega, who is in his third season at the helm, guided the Bantams to their best finish (7th) and highest point total (617) in program history.
Brad Snodgrass of Tufts was selected as the Diving Coach of the Year for the sixth time in seven years, as he coached Matthew Rohrer to a pair of wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Snodgrass is in his 27th season at Tufts.
