HADLEY, Mass. – The NESCAC announced the 2015-16 Men's Swimming and Diving All-Conference Team. The top three finishers in each event at the 2016 NESCAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships received all-conference recognition.
Junior Benjamin Lin (Short Hills, N.J.) of Williams was named Swimmer of the Year for the first time in his career. Lin won the 50-yard backstroke (22.33) for the third consecutive year and successfully defended his title in the 100-yard backstroke with a meet and pool record time of 47.93 seconds. He finished third in the 200-yard backstroke. Lin was also a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:29.31), 400-yard medley relay (3:17.31) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:00.79) that established new pool standards in each event and a new meet record in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Amherst senior Asher Lichtig (Lafayette, Calif.) took first place in 1-meter diving with 511.50 points and finished in second place on the 3-meter springboard with 494.60 points to be named the NESCAC Diver of the Year. He is the third Amherst diver to receive the honor, joining Ben Hopkins (2003) and Kai Robinson (2008, 2009). Lichtig was also recognized as the Four Year High Point Diver, having earned All-NESCAC honors three times on the 3-meter board and twice on the 1-meter board. The 2015 3-meter champion is the fourth Amherst diver to earn the award along with Hopkins (2003), Jordan Bowling (2005) and Connor Boyd (2008).
Kingsley Bowen (Pepper Pike, Ohio) of Tufts was named Rookie of the Year after winning the 100-yard butterfly, placing second in the 200-yard backstroke, and finishing third in the 50-yard butterfly. He was also a member of the first-place 800-yard freestyle relay and the runner-up 200-yard medley relay. Bowen is the first Jumbo to garner the accolade.
Williams’ Jake Tamposi (Hernando, Fla.) became the tenth overall Eph to be recognized as the Four Year High Point Swimmer. Tamposi was a four-time NESCAC champion in the 50-yard breaststroke and a three-time conference champion in the 100-yard breaststroke during his collegiate career.
Marc Benvenuti of Connecticut College was chosen as the Swimming Coach of the Year for the third time in four years. Benvenuti, who is in his 14th season at the helm, guided the Camels to their second-highest point total in program history after amassing 1,407 points during the three-day meet. He was also named Women’s Coach of the Year in 2006, 2007 and 2011.
Devon O’Nalty of Wesleyan was selected as the Diving Coach of the Year for the first time in his career by his peers, as he coached a pair of top 10 finishers, including the third-place diver, on the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards. O’Nalty is in his sixth season at Wesleyan.
