HADLEY, Mass. – The NESCAC announced the 2014-15 Men's Swimming and Diving All-Conference Team. The top three finishers in each event at the 2015 NESCAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships received all-conference recognition.
Senior Thad Ricotta (Katy, Texas) of Williams was named Swimmer of the Meet for the first time in his career. Ricotta won the 100-yard butterfly (48.98), the 200-yard butterfly (1:46.53) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:25.93), setting pool records in each event as well as breaking the previous meet records in the 200 butterfly and the 500 freestyle. He was also a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:29.05) and the 400-yard medley relay (3:16.48) that established new pool, meet and NESCAC standards, as well as being a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay (6:42.60). Ricotta also swam on the runner-up 400-yard freestyle relay (3:02.36).
Tufts sophomore Matthew Rohrer (Katonah, N.Y.) took first place in 1-meter diving with a pool-record 499.95 points and finished in second place on the 3-meter springboard with 503.90 points to be named the NESCAC Diver of the Meet. Rohrer is the sixth consecutive Jumbo diver to receive the honor.
Sam Spurrell (Providence, R.I.) of Amherst was named Rookie of the Meet after placing third in the 200-yard butterfly, and being a member of the runner-up 400-yard medley relay that turned in an NCAA qualifying time.
Williams’ Christian Gronbeck (Simsbury, Conn.) became the ninth overall Eph to be recognized as the Four Year High Point Swimmer. Gronbeck was a four-time NESCAC champion in the 1,000-yard freestyle and a three-time conference champion in the 1,650-yard freestyle during his collegiate career. He also finished as runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle three times.
Bowdoin’s Tom Kramer (Andover, Mass.) was named the Four Year High Point Diver. This year, Kramer turned in his best combined finish at the conference championships after finishing fourth in 3-meter diving (469.45) and fifth on the 1-meter board (432.25).
Steve Kuster of Williams was named Swimming Coach of the Year for the sixth time in his career. Kuster led the Ephs to their 13th consecutive and 14th overall NESCAC championship with 2,066.5 points. He was also named Women’s Coach of the Year in 2002-04, 2007, 2008 and 2010.
Brad Snodgrass of Tufts was named Diving Coach of the Year for the fifth consecutive year, as he coached the 1-meter diving champion and the 3-meter runner-up finisher. Snodgrass was also the Women’s Diving Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2008.
