HADLEY, Mass. – The NESCAC announced the 2013-14 Men's Swimming and Diving All-Conference Team. The top three finishers in each event at the 2013 NESCAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships received all-conference recognition.
Connecticut College senior Sam Gill (Springfield, Ill.) was named Swimmer of the Meet for the first time in his career. Gill won the 100-yard backstroke, butterfly and freestyle, establishing a pool record in the butterfly with a time of 48.75. He was also a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:21.57), the 200-yard medley relay (1:30.38) and the 400-yard medley relay (3:18.70) that set new pool, meet and NESCAC marks, as well as the first place 400-yard freestyle relay that broke a 25-year old pool record with a time of 3:01.37. Gill is the first Camel to receive Swimmer of the Meet honors. He was also recognized as the Four Year High Point Swimmer.
Johann Schmidt (Nanuet, N.Y.) of Tufts capped off his collegiate career by being the first diver in NESCAC history to be named Diver of the Meet for a fourth consecutive season. With a score of 578.15 in 1-meter diving, the senior set a new pool, meet and NESCAC record, while placing second in 3-meter diving. Schmidt was named Four Year High Point Diver after finishing as a three-time champion in 1-meter and 3-meter diving and a runner-up once in each event.
Benjamin Lin (Short Hills, N.J.) of Williams was named Rookie of the Year after winning the 50-yard backstroke with a meet record time of 22.70, placing second in the 100-yard backstroke and third in the 200-yard backstroke. He was also a member of the runner-up 200-yard medley relay and the third-place 400-yard medley relay.
Marc Benvenuti of Connecticut College was named Coach of the Year for the second straight season after receiving the award for the first time last season on the men’s side. Benvenuti led the Camels to a third-place finish with a program-record 1,468 points. He was also named Women’s Coach of the Year in 2006, 2007, and 2011.
Brad Snodgrass of Tufts was named Diving Coach of the Year for the fourth straight year, as he coached the 1-meter and 3-meter diving champions as well as the 3-meter runner-up and third-place 1-meter finisher. Snodgrass was also the Women’s Diving Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2008.
