NEW LONDON, Conn. - Rebecca Raymond contributed a goal and an assist to lead the Connecticut College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory against Trinity in a NESCAC Championship Quarterfinal Game played on Freeman Field at Tempel Green in New London Saturday.
The third-seeded Camels improved their record to 14-2-0. They will take on second-seeded Bowdoinin a NESCAC Semifinal contest hosted by Williams next Saturday in Williamstown, Mass.
The sixth-seeded Bantams closed out their season with a winning record of 8-7-1 after starting the season at 0-4-1 in conference action.
Trinity had the first scoring chance of the day. Playing with a wind that fluctuated between 15-20 miles per hour in a driving rain, the visitors penetrated the Camel defense in the second minute of action. Laura Nee took a shot from the six-yard line, but Connecticut College keeper Bryanna Montalvo was able to make the save.
But in the eighth minute of play, the Camels broke through the Bantam defense. Michelle Medina buried her team-leading eighth goal of the season with a 20-yard blast from the left side of the box that found some open netting inside the near post.
The Camels held a 7-to-5 advantage on shots in the first stanza to carry the one goal lead into the break.
In the second half, Connecticut College took complete control of the contest, holding a decisive 11-1 edge in shots.
In the 59th minute of play, the Camels cashed in one of their five corners. Raymond unloaded with a cross from the left flag and Amanda Onofrio elevated to meet the ball for a header that landed into the upper right portion of the goal to make it a 2-0 game.
The Camels tacked on their third goal in the 73rd minute of play on another set piece. Raymond one-timed a ball inside the left post for the Connecticut College goal to make it a 3-0 contest.
Astrid Kempainen distributed her league leading ninth assist of the season by delivering a corner kick.
The Camels were able to hold on for the 3-0 victory in their first home NESCAC playoff game.
Montalvo finished with four saves en route to her league-leading 10th shutout of the season. Monica DiFiori contributed with five stops for the Bantams.
Connecticut College held an 18-6 edge in shots, while enjoying a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
