NESCAC Golf All-Conference Teams Announced

Williams of Hamilton Claims Player of the Year

HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior Brian Williams of Hamilton College earned medalist and Conference Player of the Year honors at the 2002 NESCAC Golf Championship. Williams shot a two-under par 69 to finish with a two-day total of 145 at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course in Middlebury, Vermont.

Last year’s medalist Will Sicks of Williams College finished third with a 150 and led Williams to their third consecutive NESCAC title. Middlebury senior Brad Tufts was named to the first team after leading the Panthers with a 149. Trinity College senior Matt Greason and Williams senior David Mihm also garnered first-team honors after finishing tied for fourth with 151.

Tufts senior Elliot Barr leads seven individuals named to the All-NESCAC second team. Barr posted a 152 to finish in seventh place at the Championship. Amherst sophomore Justin Sharaf was one of two underclassmen named to the second-team. Hamilton senior Tom Ferrero finished 9th with a 155. All four players scoring 156 and finished tied for tenth place were named to the All-NESCAC second-team. Seniors Dan Head of Hamilton and Aaron Flink of Williams were joined by junior Ryan Simper of Middlebury and Bowdoin sophomore Asam Mackie.

Freshman Dan Weinbeck of Tufts and his coach Bob Sheldon were also honored. Weinbeck earned conference Rookie of the Year honors after he finished tied for 17th posting a 159. Sheldon was selected by his peers as the NESCAC Coach of the Year.
