Wesleyan Advances to Semifinals in NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament

In quarterfinal action at the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn., the Wesleyan Cardinals swept Washington & Lee, 4-0, to move into the semifinal round. The Bowdoin Polar Bears suffered a 4-0 loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to bow out of the tournament after reaching the quarterfinals for the second year in a row.

The Cardinals started off strong, winning the doubles point on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts. Sarah Youngberg pushed Wesleyan's lead to 2-0 with a straight-sets win (6-1, 6-3) at No. 4 singles and Agnes Guggenheim made the score 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1. Kendall Smith delivered the match-clinching point with a 6-2, 6-4 win on the No. 6 court.

Wesleyan (21-2) advances to the Final Four for the fifth time in program history. The Cardinals will face Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, a 4-0 winner over Bowdoin, and is unbeaten versus Division III opponents on Tuesday, May 19 at 5 p.m.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps team earned a 4-0 win over the Bowdoin Polar Bears in a quarterfinal match. The Athenas won on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts to take the doubles points. CMS added wins at No. 1, No. 5, and No. 6 in the singles matches to close out the victory. Julia Ross pushed her CMS opponent to three sets (6-0, 1-6, 6-0) and the Polar Bears were winning in the second set on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts before the match was decided.

Bowdoin finishes the season with a 15-8 record. The Polar Bears were the NESCAC Runners-Up and NCAA Quarterfinalists.
