Middlebury and Tufts stayed alive in the Medford Regional and will face each other on Saturday, May 16 for a spot in the regional final. Colby staved off elimination with clutch hitting by Emma Burnham to reach the regional final at Husson and will need to beat MIT twice on Saturday to advance in the NCAA Tournament.
Muhlenberg def. Middlebury, 5-4 | Box Score
Sarah LaFond’s three-run homer in the second inning gave Middlebury a 3-0 lead, but Muhlenberg answered with four runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. The Panthers retook the lead when Kristyn Carrol scored on a wild pitch, but the Mules regained the lead in the top of the seventh with an RBI single. After issuing Jen Westphal first base with a hit-by-pitch, Muhlenberg was able to close out the game with three straight outs.
Middlebury def. Alfred, 5-2 | Box Score
In a must-win game, the Panthers plated three runs in the third inning behind an RBI double from Kristyn Carroll and an error by Alfred to take a 3-0 lead. The Saxons trimmed the lead to one with a pair of runs in the fifth, but the Panthers plated two runs in the top of the seventh to earn the 5-2 victory and remain alive in the Medford Regional.
Muhlenberg def. Tufts, 3-1 | Box Score
The Mules scored three times in the first inning and hung on for a 3-1 victory over host Tufts. A two-RBI triple highlighted Muhlenberg’s first inning to give it a 3-0 lead. Paige Murphy’s RBI single in the fifth got Tufts on the board, but that was all the offense the Jumbos could muster. Josie Krieman scattered five hits, did not allow an earned run, and struck out four Jumbos in the circle for Muhlenberg.
Colby def. Husson, 3-2 | Box Score
Emma Burnham’s solo home run in the bottom of the seventh broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the Colby Mules to a 3-2 victory over host Husson in Game 3 of the Bangor Regional. The Mules took a 1-0 lead after the first inning, but the Eagles led 2-1 through four innings. Colby knotted the game up in the bottom of the fifth on Juliana Kiley’s RBI double. Burnham, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, provided the walk-off winner in the seventh. Sophia Meade earned the win in the circle, her 12th of the season, allowing one earned run in 5.2 innings.
Colby def. Endicott, 6-3 | Box Score
In an elimination game, Colby erased a 3-1 deficit with a five-run sixth inning to advance to the regional final at Husson. Kelsey Sullivan’s single to left field drove in two runs to tie the game up, 3-3. Carissa Cassidy followed with single and the Mules scored on an Endicott error to push Colby ahead, 4-3. Emma Burnham added a two-RBI single to increase the Mules’ lead to 6-3. In the seventh, Endicott earned a walk with one out, but Sophia Meade was able to retire the next two batters to close out the game. Meade improved to 13-3 and allowed one hit over four innings. Cassidy when 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI while Burnham was 3-for-3 with three RBI. The Mules advance to the regional final and will face MIT on Saturday, May 16 at 11 a.m. Colby will need to beat the Engineers twice to advance in the NCAA Tournament.
Cortland def. Bowdoin, 4-2 | Box Score
Bowdoin saw its season come to an end, dropping a 4-2 decision to Cortland in an elimination game at the Moravian Regional in Bethlehem, Pa. The Red Dragons broke through in the top of the third with an RBI double that drove in a runner from third. Cortland added two more runs in the fourth. In the sixth, Margaret Flannery-Goodman drove in a run and Reilly Parga added an RBI single to slice the lead to 4-2. Bowdoin was unable to find the equalizing runs in the final inning. Cortland’s pitching surrendered four hits and struck out three batters, while not giving up an earned run. The Polar Bears, who were making their first NCAA appearance since 2010, finish the season with a record of 27-11.
