Top-seeded Bowdoin and second-seeded Tufts scored 20-plus goals in quartefinal victories of the NESCAC Championship. The top two seeds will be joined by No. 5 Bates and No. 6 Hamilton in the semifinals. The Bobcats are making their first semifinal appearance since 2017 and the Continentals are in the semifnals for the second time in three years. The Polar Bears will host the remaining rounds of the NESCAC Tournament on May 2-3.
No. 1 Bowdoin def. No. 8 Williams, 22-4 | Box Score
Sam Raye-Steiner and Casey Ryan combined for seven goals and six assists as unbeaten Bowdoin rolled to a 22-4 victory over Williams at Whittier Field, remaining perfect at 15-0.
Bowdoin led 3-1 after the first quarter and went on to outscore Williams 10-1 in the second to take a 13-2 lead at the half. The Polar Bears held the Ephs scoreless in the third quarter as Bowdoin increased its advantage to 20-2.
The Polar Bears received at least one goal from 13 different scorers as Bowdoin dominated possession throughout, winning 19 of 28 faceoffs and collecting 36 ground balls to Williams' 19.
Cade Schuckman led Williams with two goals. Goalkeeper Charlie Medd stopped 13 shots in the first half before Colin Decker took over, making nine saves in relief.
No. 2 Tufts def. No. 7 Middlebury, 21-11 | Box Score
Jack Regnery scored four goals and added three assists as Tufts pulled away from Middlebury to post a 21-11 at Bello Field.
Garrett Kelly, Chase Beyer, Will Emsing, and Davis Owens all netted a hat trick to contribute to the Jumbo offense. Tufts dominated the ground ball battle 54-28 and outshot Middlebury 72-32.
Middlebury and Tufts stood tied 4-4 midway through the first period before Tufts closed on a 3-0 run to take a 7-4 advantage at the break. The Jumbos outscored the Panthers, 14-7 the rest of the way.
Logan White led the Panthers with four goals, while goalkeeper Hayden Kern made a game-high 19 saves.
No. 6 Hamilton def. No. 3 Wesleyan, 10-9 | Box Score
Thomas Healy scored the go-ahead goal with 15 seconds remaining as Hamilton edged Wesleyan 10-9 at Citrin Field in a thrilling back-and-forth contest that came down to the final moments.
Healy's winner halted a furious Wesleyan comeback in which Will Miller scored three unanswered fourth-quarter goals to tie the game at 9-9 with under two minutes to play. Miller finished with four goals on the day, but it wasn't enough to defeat Hamilton.
Carson Kraus and Healy led the Continentals with three goals, while Frank Coyle and Maddux Little added two each. Jesse Delinsky handed out three assists. Hamilton held a 9-6 lead entering the fourth quarter before Wesleyan's late surge.
Goalkeeper Jack Williams made nine saves for Hamilton, while Wesleyan's Conor Selfridge stopped six shots. Miller finished the day with four goals and an assist to pace the Cardinals.
Hamilton advances to the NESCAC Semifinals for the second time in three years.
No. 5 Bates def. No. 4 Amherst | Box Score
Connor Hartman scored four goals, and Riley McClure added a hat trick as Bates used a strong second and fourth quarter to pull away to defeat Amherst 12-7 at Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium.
Bates trailed 2-1 after the first quarter but erupted for five second-quarter goals to seize control. The Bobcats closed the game outscoring the Mammoths 5-2 in the final frame for the final margin.
Bates outshot Amherst 48-36 and won 13 of 23 faceoffs, with Miles Schmidt winning 11 of 20 draws. Goalkeeper Andrew Toland made seven saves.
Willie Doyle contributed two goals to lead Amherst, and Brooks Catlin stopped 17 shots in a losing effort.
Bates returns to the semifinals for the first time since 2015.
