MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Tufts Jumbos own a 12-point lead over Williams following competition on Day 2 of the 2026 NESCAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships at Wesleyan’s Webster Family Natatorium.
A highlight of the night was Middlebury sophomore Anna McGrew matching the NESCAC Championship Meet Record she set during the morning prelim swim to win the 50 freestyle. During the morning session, Colby's Kellen Mottl set a NESCAC Record, a NESCAC Championship Meet Record, and a Wesleyan Pool record with a time of 28.40 in the 50 breaststroke. Mottl went on to win the NESCAC title in the event during the evening session.
The Jumbos’ total stands at 710.5 points. Madeleine Dunn gave Tufts its only first-place finish of the night with a win in the 500 freestyle. Williams sits second with 698.5 points as the Ephs won the two relay races, and Sophie Phelps placed first in the 200 IM. The Colby Mules are in third place with 533 points, with Amherst (487 points) and Middlebury (415 points) rounding out the top five in the team standings.
Day 3 action begins with morning prelim swims at 10 a.m., followed by diving trials at 1:30 p.m. The evening session begins with the Senior Ceremony at 5:45 p.m.

200 Freestyle Relay
The Williams relay of Maggie Farley, Irene Yang, Sophie Phelps, and Emma Dimter set a Wesleyan Pool record with a time of 1:32.39 as the Ephs won the second relay of the 2026 championship. The victory also marked the 19th time a Williams relay has claimed first in the event. Tufts, last year’s NESCAC Champion in the event, placed second with a time of 1:33.55 (NCAA B-cut), and the Colby squad finished third in time of 1:33.71 (NCAA B-Cut).
50 Breaststroke
Colby’s Kellen Mottl became just the second Mule to win the 50 breaststroke event at the NESCAC Championship, joining Kelly Norsworthy, who captured the title three consecutive years (2006, 2007, 2008). Mottl posted a winning time of 28.74. In the morning prelim swims, Mottl set a NESCAC record, a NESCAC Championship record, and a Wesleyan Pool record with a time of 28.40. Tufts’ Sydney Stasz was second (28.82), and Bates’ Sarah Palmer finished third (28.84).
50 Butterfly
Middlebury rookie Mia Cuiffo won the 50 butterfly with a time of 24.63 to become the second Panther in team history to win the NESCAC title in the event. Cuiffo joins Marika Ross, who won the event three times (2006, 2007, 2008). Amherst’s Lucy Smith finished second (24.99) and Tufts’ Angel Smyrniou placed third (25.03).
500 Freestyle
Tufts senior Madeleine Dunn won the 500 freestyle for the second time in her career. Dunn claimed her first NESCAC title in the event as a rookie in 2023 and bookends her career with a victory as a senior. Dunn posted an NCAA B-cut time of 4:52.21. The Williams duo of Anna Doherty (4:58.75) and Carter Roebuck (4:59.59) finished second and third, respectively, and earned NCAA B-cut times.
50 Backstroke
Colby sophomore Alexis Coates became the second Mule to win the 50 backstroke and the first since 2009. Coates was the fastest to the wall with a time of 25.59. Former Colby standout Kelsey Potdevin won the event in 2006, 2008, and 2009. Hamilton’s Paige Wielgus and Aly Eward of Williams had identical times of 26.10 to finish in a tie for second place.
200 IM
Williams rookie Sophie Phelps, who set a Wesleyan pool record in the morning prelims (2:00.92), won the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.39 (NCAA B-cut). Phelps’ victory marks the sixth consecutive championship that an Eph has won the event and the 15th time overall. Amherst’s Paige Arnold finished second with an NCAA B-cut time of 2:03.08, and Irene Yang placed third with a time of 2:03.50 (NCAA B-cut).
50 Freestyle
Middlebury sophomore Anna McGrew matched her NESCAC Championship Meet Record she set during the morning prelim swim to win the 50 freestyle. McGrew’s winning time of 22.73 makes her the fourth Panther to claim the conference crown in the event and first since 2020. Sydney Thompson of Amherst placed second with an NCAA B-cut time of 23.29, and Alex Lazorisak finished third with a time of 23.33 (NCAA B-cut).
1-Meter Diving
The Amherst duo of Brooke Ronan and Donna Zhang finished 1-2 in the 1-meter diving event, while Williams junior Ashley Loh finished third with 429.60 points. Ronan, a first-year, wins her first NESCAC title with 446.00 points, extending the streak of a Mammoth winning the event to eight consecutive championships. Zhang posted 437.25 points for second place.
400 Medley Relay
The Williams Ephs claimed their third relay title of the 2026 championship with a victory in the 400 medley relay to close out the competition on Friday night. The relay of Irene Yang, Anna Doherty, Esme Van Orden, and Sophie Phelps posted a pool-record time of 3:41.85, extending the Ephs’ win streak in the event to 11 consecutive championships. The Colby squad posted an NCAA B-cut time of 3:44.51 and Tufts finished third with a time of 3:47.18 (NCAA B-cut).
