NESCAC Player of the Week
Kathleen Smith – Williams – Jr. – F – Plaistow, N.H.
Smith averaged 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in a 2-0 NESCAC weekend for the Ephs. The junior scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 67-63 overtime victory over Tufts on Friday. Smith scored all eight Eph points in the extra session as the Ephs posted their first win over the Jumbos since February 2011. Smith finished with a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds in a 55-37 triumph over Connecticut College on Saturday.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Laura Mendell (Westport, Mass.) averaged 16.7 points and 4.3 assists per game in a 2-1 week for the Mammoths, and 18.0 points per game in wins over conference rivals Trinity and Wesleyan. Mendell posted her first double-double of the season in a win over No. 18 Trinity, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to go with five assists. The senior also netted 18 points with seven boards, five assists, and three steals in a victory over Wesleyan.
Bates –
Elsa Daulerio (Harpswell, Maine) tallied 13 points and seven rebounds while matching her career-high with five blocked shots Friday at Bowdoin. The senior followed up with a game-high 16 points, five rebounds, and two blocks in a 57-52 win over Colby on Sunday.
Bowdoin –
Carly Davey (Westford, Mass.) scored a game-high 15 points in a midweek win over WPI before scoring 16 of her game-high 21 points in the second half in a win over Bates in a matchup of two nationally ranked teams. Davey’s effort helped turn a six-point halftime lead into a 21-point cushion in the fourth quarter. The senior was 6-for-7 from the field and 7-for-7 from the free throw line against the Bobcats while helping anchor a Bowdoin defense that held Bates to 28 percent shooting.
Colby –
Amelia Hanscom (Andover, Mass.) reached double digits in scoring in both games for the Mules last week. The junior collected 10 points in a midweek win at Husson and closed the week with 14 points at Bates in Colby's first conference setback of the season. Hanscom also averaged 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists across for the week.
Conn. College –
Sofia Tavarez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) averaged a team-high 15.0 points per game last week as the Camels picked up their first NESCAC victory of the season. The rookie netted 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting in a 57-48 win at Middlebury, Conn. College’s first league win on the road since 2020. Tavarez also led all scorers with 15 points and added six rebounds in a loss at Williams.
Hamilton –
Taylor Lambo (Watertown, Mass.) averaged a double-double with 18.0 points and 11.0 rebounds and shot 58 percent (15-of-26) from the field as the Continentals split two NESCAC games. Lambo scored 14 points, grabbed a team-high 10 boards, and added two assists, a block, and a steal in a 63-49 win against Wesleyan. The senior forward posted 22 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and a steal in an 87-82 overtime setback against Trinity. Lambo has seven double-doubles in the last eight games.
Middlebury –
Calie Messina (Auburn, Mass.) was the leading scorer in two of three contests for the Panthers. The senior opened the week with 13 points and three rebounds in a battle with No. 4 and two-time Division III national runner-up Smith. In the Panthers’ conference games versus Connecticut College and Tufts, Messina combined for 19 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Messina’s best stat line of 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists was against the Camels. Messina ranks second on the team in scoring (10.2 ppg).
Trinity –
Avery Marzo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) guided the 18th-ranked Bantams offense last week, averaging 16.0 points, shooting 45 percent from the field, 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from beyond the arc, with 6.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.7 steals. In a 61-55 win against Babson, Marzo collected 14 points, six rebounds, and a team-high three steals, followed by an 11-point, seven-rebound effort in a NESCAC battle at Amherst. The junior capped the week with a game-high 23 points, shooting a career-high 5-of-9 from 3-point range, with five rebounds, five assists, and two steals in an overtime victory at Hamilton.
Tufts –
Tessa Lozner (Morristown, N.J.) helped Tufts to a 1-1 week. The rookie averaged 16.0 points per game, tallying a career-high 24 points against Williams on Friday. Lozner added eight points in a win over Middlebury on Saturday.
