NESCAC Player of the Week
Abbie Quinn – Bowdoin – Jr. – F – Bangor, Maine
Quinn led the Polar Bears to a pair of double-digit road wins to start the NESCAC season, at Tufts and Conn. College. Quinn scored 22 points with eight boards, shooting 63 percent from the field at Tufts before scoring 16 points with four boards and three blocks in 25 minutes at Conn. College. For the weekend, Quinn averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and shot 63 percent from the field (12-19) and 87 percent from the line (14-16).
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Annie McCarthy (Medfield, Mass.) averaged 15.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in a 0-2 week for the Mammoths. In a 70-66 loss to Springfield, McCarthy scored a career-high 22 points, including shooting 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. The senior leads the Mammoths in scoring, averaging 12.9 points per game.
Bates –
Elsa Daulerio (Harpswell, Maine) led all players in scoring in both games last weekend, starting with 13 points, a team-high six rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots in a 63-54 win over No. 19-ranked Amherst on Friday. The senior followed up by recording her first double-double of the season, matching her season-high with 22 points and grabbing a season-high 12 rebounds against Hamilton. Daulerio also dished out three assists and matched her career-high with five blocks in the 69-60 win over the Continentals. The No. 13-ranked Bobcats did not trail in either game, marking the first time since the 2008-09 season they've started NESCAC play with a pair of games they never trailed.
Colby – Junior
Kate Olenik (Medfield, Mass.) joined Colby's 1,000-point club with 17 in a midweek win over MIT. The junior stayed hot for the NESCAC openers as the Mules topped Conn. College and Tufts over the weekend, and reached double-digits in scoring in all three contests. Against Tufts, Olenik scored five of her 17 points in the fourth quarter and blocked the final attempt by the Jumbos at the buzzer as Colby held on for a 67-64 victory.
Conn. College –
Sydney Marshall (Enfield, Conn.) averaged 10.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game in the opening weekend of NESCAC play. The sophomore finished with 10 points, five rebounds, and three blocks against Colby and followed up with 10 points, six boards, one block, and one steal versus Bowdoin. Marshall shot 7-for-17 for the week and also went 6-for-11 from the charity stripe.
Hamilton –
Kendall Harris (Chapel Hill, N.C.) averaged 11.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in two games against ranked opponents. Harris posted 13 points and five boards in a 66-54 setback at No. 3 Smith. The junior added 10 points, nine rebounds, and four assists in a 69-60 loss at No. 12 Bates.
Middlebury – Sophomore
Sarah Chenette (Cohasset, Mass.) averaged a team-best 13.0 points over three contests in a 2-1 week for Middlebury. The guard opened the slate with 16 points in just 15 minutes as the Panthers cruised to a 69-44 win over Emerson. Chenette also came up clutch in the team’s conference opening against Trinity, finishing one rebound shy of a double-double (19 points, 9 rebounds) to help the squad grind out a 64-62 win over the No. 18 Bantams.
Tufts – Sophomore
Abi Stone (Chapel Hill, N.C.) set career-highs for points in both games last weekend, as she totaled 14 points against No. 10 Bowdoin before pouring in 21 points against Colby on Saturday. For the week, Stone averaged 17.5 points per game, while going 16-of-24 (67 percent) from the field. In Saturday's loss to Colby, Stone was 10-of-12 from the floor while registering five rebounds in each game.
Wesleyan – Senior
Olivia Quinn (Franklin, Mass.) averaged 19.5 points across two games last weekend on 46.2 percent shooting, 40 percent from three, and 78.6 percent from the line to go along with eight rebounds, 2.5 assists, 3.5 steals, and 2.5 blocks. Quinn opened with 16 points, nine rebounds, and three steals on Friday against Williams and followed with a monster game in an upset win over Middlebury, stuffing the stat sheet with 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists, four blocks, and four steals.
Williams –
Kathleen Smith (Plaistow, N.H.) averaged 11.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 61.5 percent from the floor in three games last week. The junior posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 boards, while shooting 6-for-9 from the field, at WPI. Smith recorded 12 points and nine rebounds, while shooting 6-for-11 from the field, at Trinity, and contributed nine points in a 67-61 win at Wesleyan.
