GENEVA, Ohio - Colby's Levi Biery became the first Mule to win an NCAA title in the men's 400-meter Hurdles and is the second NESCAC athlete to claim the national title in the event since 1975 (Fred Hintlian, Tufts). Biery's NCAA crown highlighted the efforts of the 59 NESCAC athletes who qualified for the championship held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. A total of 40 NESCAC athletes garnered All-America honors over the three-day event.
Biery finished second in the prelim heats with a qualifying time of 52.27. He lowered his time by a hundreth of a second, 52.26, to take first in the event and was followed by three other NESCAC hurdlers as Xander Swann of Middlebury placed third (52.63) and Bowdoin's Adepoju Arogundade finished fourth (52.65).
Other top 10 finishes in the men's competition included Conn. College's Matt Scardigno placing seventh in the 5000-meter race (14:16.92) and Oak Sullivan of Williams tallied 6,536 points in the decathlon.
NESCAC women athletes picked up 11 First Team All-America honors led by Conn. College's Grace McDonough who was the national runner-up in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 16:16.36 and added a third-place finish in the 1,500 meters (4:25.49). Middlebury's Audrey MacLean was the runner-up in the 3000-meter Steeplechase (10:23.59) and Hamilton's Keira Rogan finished just behind in third (10:24.56). MacLean also earned an eight-place finish in the 5,000-meters (16:42.81). Colby's Fiona Mejico finished second in the 400-meter Hurdles (29.23) and Amherst's Myeh Medina clocked in at sixth place (1:01.73). The Tufts duo of Jordan Andrew and Elysse Cumberland led the NESCAC in the jumps. Andrew placed fourth in the triple jump witha mark of 12.29 meters (40-4) and Cumberland finished ffith in the long jump with a leap of 5.81 meters (19-0.75). In the relays, Williams and Colby finished 5-6 in the 4x400 race. The Ephs posted a time of 3:44.99 while the Mules combined for a time of 3:45.31.
