Two teams very familiar with each other will square off at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday night for a spot in the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse National Championship game. The Bowdoin Polar Bears and Tufts Jumbos cruised to quarterfinal wins at Bello Field in Medford, Mass. on Saturday to book a spot in the national semifinal.
Senior attack Max Ettinghausen had a game-high six goals to lead No. 1 Tufts past No. 7 Gettysburg. The Jumbos led 7-2 after the first quarter and limited the Bullets to three goals in the second half en route to a 17-8 victory. Connor Garzone made 11 stops for the Jumbos.
Bowdoin scored the first six goals of the game in the opening 10 minutes in a 19-11 win over Christopher Newport. Jason Lach scored eight times for the Polar Bears, tying the school’s single-game goal-scoring record. Robert Hobbs made eight saves in the Bowdoin net and the Polar Bear defense held CNU to their second-lowest scoring total of the season.
Tufts, the defending national champion, returns to the national semifinal for the fifth straight year, while Bowdoin is making its second straight appearance. Earlier this season, Tufts pulled out a 15-14 double-overtime win at Bowdoin in the final game of the regular season.
