NESCAC Player of the Week
CK Giancola – Wesleyan – Gr. – A – Fort Myers, Fla.
Giancola came through in the clutch for Wesleyan in a pair of come-from-behind road wins at No. 12 Stevens and Bates. In a game the Cardinals trailed 7-2 at Stevens, Giancola scored the go-ahead goal with 13:50 remaining and finished off the win with an insurance marker with 3:16 left as he finished with four points (2G, 2A) against the Ducks. The graduate student followed up with a seven-point effort at Bates, matching his season-high with six goals, four of which were scored in the fourth quarter in a game that Wesleyan trailed 12-11 with under six minutes remaining.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Brooks Catlin (Boulder, Colo.) faced 66 shots in a 2-0 week for the Mammoths and allowed 15 goals while making 26 saves. The junior had a 7.50 goals against average and a .634 save percentage. In a 12-8 win over Bowdoin, Catlin finished with 15 saves. He made seven saves in the second half as the Mammoths rallied from a 5-4 halftime deficit.
Bates –
Jack Goldbach (West Caldwell, N.J.) posted a career-high five assists, two ground balls, and a caused turnover in a 28-8 win over Maine Maritime on Wednesday as the Bobcats broke the program record for goals in a single game. The newcomer followed up with four assists and a career-high four ground balls against No. 6 Wesleyan on Saturday. Goldbach leads the Bobcats with 14 assists this season and is tied for third in the NESCAC in assists per game.
Colby –
Gavin Rothenberg (Westport, Conn.) had a hand in all five of Colby's goals against Hamilton. The sophomore had two assists in the opening frame, scored Colby's lone goal of the second quarter, and tallied a goal and an assist in the third as the Mules stayed within striking distance (6-5) heading into the final quarter. Rothenberg leads Colby with 13 goals and 19 points.
Conn. College –
Andrew Rainville (Watertown, Conn.) recorded five goals and three assists over two games last week to lead the Camels. The rookie netted four goals and added three assists for a season-best seven points in a 17-2 win over Nichols. Rainville’s other goal came in the first half in a league matchup against Middlebury.
Hamilton –
Jake Mair (Middleton, Mass.) tied a career-high with five caused turnovers and scooped up four ground balls in a 10-5 win against Colby – the lone game last week for the Continentals. Mair led a defense that allowed just 24 shots and shut out the Mules in the fourth quarter. Senior
Sean Gebauer (Milltown, N.J.) won a career-best 11-of-15 faceoffs and picked up two ground balls.
Middlebury – In the team’s 13-8 victory over Connecticut College, senior
Patrick Jamin (Rumson, N.J.) led Middlebury with four points (2G, 2A) and caused a turnover. Through seven games, Jamin leads the team with 11 goals.
Trinity –
Jay Ottomanelli (Garden City, N.J.) helped power the Bantams to a pair of road victories last week, registering nine points with eight goals and an assist. In a 14-6 win over Scranton, Ottomanelli dished out an assist on the opening goal of the game and potted a team-high four goals, followed by another four-goal spurt as Trinity clipped Williams, 13-9, for its first NESCAC victory of the season. Ottomanelli added five ground balls across the two contests.
Tufts -
Garrett Kelly (Atlanta, Ga.) helped the Jumbos to a pair of Top 15 wins this past week, as Tufts rallied twice to top No. 3 Christopher Newport, 17-16, in overtime while defeating No. 12 Stevens, 9-6, on Saturday. Against Christopher Newport, Kelly had a career-high six points on five goals and an assist and followed that up with two goals in the win over Stevens. For the season, Kelly has scored in all six of Tufts' wins.
Williams –
Jesse Shapiro (Glencoe, Ill.) totaled eight goals in two games last week. The senior recorded a career-high six goals and tied a career-best with six points against Trinity. Shapiro buried two goals against No. 4 RPI on Wednesday evening.
