NESCAC Player of the Week
Kathleen Smith – Williams– Jr. – F – Plaistow, N.H.
Smith averaged 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds while shooting 67 percent (12-18) from the field in a 2-0 week for the Ephs. Smith finished with 17 points, including eight in the final quarter to allow Williams to build on a three-point lead, and added 12 rebounds in a 53-46 non-conference victory over Wesleyan. The forward recorded 15 points and eight boards, while shooting 7-of-10 from the floor, in a come-from-behind 64-57 victory over visiting Springfield. Smith scored nine of the Ephs’ 12 points in a 12-2 spurt over the third and fourth quarters that turned a two-point deficit into an eight-point lead in the eventual win.

Amherst – Senior Annie McCarthy (Medfield, Mass.) led Amherst to a 61-44 win over Oswego State with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor, five rebounds, and three assists. 

BatesSophie Spolter (Blacklick, Ohio) paced the Bobcats with a season-high 18 points, nine rebounds, and four assists on Tuesday in a thrilling 70-66 overtime win over Southern Maine. Half of Spolter’s points came in the fourth quarter and overtime, including a game-tying jumper with 2:48 left in the extra session and two clutch free throws to ice the game with five seconds left in the extra period. The senior followed up with 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting, four assists, and three rebounds in an 88-56 win over the University of New England on Sunday as the No. 10 nationally ranked Bobcats improved to 5-0. Spolter leads Bates in scoring this season at 11.8 points per game. Senior captain Elsa Daulerio (Harpswell, Maine) became the 22nd player in Bates women's basketball history to score 1,000 career points in the Bobcats’ victory over the University of Southern Maine. Daulerio and her mother, Adrienne Shibles ‘91, are now both members of the 1,000-point club at Bates and are believed to be only the second mother-daughter combination in college basketball history to reach this milestone for the same school.

Bowdoin – Sophomore Grace Kinum (New Providence, N.J.) scored 17 points with nine rebounds and three assists on 7-for-12 shooting from the field as the Polar Bears cruised to a road win at Union.

Colby – Amelia Hanscom (Andover, Mass.) tallied a career-high 16 rebounds and scored 11 points for her second double-double of the season as Colby remained undefeated and issued Brooklyn College its first loss of the 2025-26 campaign.  The junior played 35 minutes and added five assists. 

Conn. College – Sofia Tavarez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) averaged 16.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 2.5 assists per game last week as the Camels split a pair of non-conference games. The rookie finished with game highs of 21 points and six steals in a comeback win over Wheaton, supplying the go-ahead free throw with 1.2 seconds to go in a 60-59 victory. It marked her third 20-point game of the season. Tavarez, who also finished with 11 points at Eastern Connecticut State, shot 14-for-17 from the free-throw line for the week.
 
Hamilton – Abbey Schwoebel (Westport, N.Y.) went 3-of-3 from the field and finished with a career-high 11 points off the bench in a 70-52 win at Curry in the lone game of the week for the Continentals. Senior Taylor Lambo (Watertown, Mass.) led all scorers with 14 points while sophomore Annabelle Semeter (Westborough, Mass.) tied a career best with three steals.

Middlebury – Calie Messina (Auburn, Mass.) spearheaded the Panthers with 14.0 points per contest in a 2-0 week. The guard tallied 12 points alongside four rebounds and a steal as the Panthers defeated in-state rival Vermont State University Castleton, 68-40. Messina netted a team-high 16 points in 35 minutes as the Panthers dispatched Oswego State, 50-40. The senior captain extended her double-digit scoring streak to five consecutive contests and is tied for first in the NESCAC with 17 made 3-pointers.

Trinity – Junior Avery Marzo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) stuffed the stat sheet for the Bantams in a 1-1 week, averaging 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 1.5 assists while shooting 50 percent (9-18) from the floor. Marzo netted 18 points, connecting on 8-of-10 from the field, with four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block in a 70-50 victory over the University of Hartford. Marzo added seven points, four rebounds, two steals, and an assist in a 72-61 loss at Smith.

Tufts – Senior guard Annie Aspesi (Ardmore, Pa.) had a solid week for the Jumbos as they went 1-1 with a win over Rhode Island College. The senior averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds for the week, adding 3.0 assists per game. Against Endicott, Aspesi totaled 14 points and six rebounds and added 13 points and nine rebounds in a win at RIC. 

Wesleyan – Senior Olivia Quinn (Franklin, Mass.) averaged 21.0 points per game in two games last week, totaling 19 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks in a 71-70 come-from-behind win at Clark as the Cardinals won despite trailing by 14 in the second half. Quinn followed that up with 23 points (5-10 3FG) while playing the full 40 minutes on Saturday in a 53-46 loss at Williams.
