Tufts' Alves to Participate in NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program at NCAA Convention

MEDFORD, Mass. - Tufts University senior Jameer Alves, a defensive back on the Jumbo football team, was selected to attend the 2025 NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program which will be held January 14-17 in conjunction with the 2025 NCAA Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.

Nominated by Tufts University Department of Athletics administrators, Alves is one of 40 ethnic minority Division III students selected to attend the annual NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program. The selected students are fully funded to attend the Convention, where they are exposed to Division III, its members, and its governance process.

The four-day event will provide young ethnic minority student-athletes who are interested in careers in athletics with opportunities to learn by participating in workshops, attending meetings and networking with leading professionals in the field. Each individual has been assigned a mentor, and Alves will be mentored by SUNY New Paltz Director of Athletics Renee Bostic.

A biopsychology major from Atlanta, Alves is not certain of exactly what he wants to do after graduation. However, he has expressed an interest in working in athletics administration and eventually advancing to a role as a Director of Athletics.

"I've been playing sports my entire life," Alves said. "The people who have made the biggest impact in my life have worked in sports. I feel like one of the best ways I can give back and honor the people who have instilled greatness in me is to work in sports and help give the next generation an opportunity to be great."

He anticipates that participating in the NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program in Nashville next week will be a great benefit towards figuring out his future goals.

"I'm hoping to gain experience and gain different pathways towards what I want to do personally, really get a start on where I can go after graduation," he said. "This will help show me what paths I can really follow."

Alves was the leading tackler for head coach Jay Civetti's 2024 Tufts University football team which finished with a 7-2 record for second place in the New England Small College Athletics Conference.
