NESCAC Athletic Communications Professionals Earn Three CSC Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Awards

HADLEY, Mass. - Athletic Communications professionals at Amherst, Bates, and Tufts were recognized as district winners in the 2023-24 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest. CSC members in all eight districts submitted nearly 400 articles in seven categories. For the first time this year, the contest was split into University and College divisions, allowing the recognition of the work done by members from smaller offices without as much time to devote to longer feature writing.

In District I, Aaron Morse's story "Meet Johnny Walk-on" about Bates football student-athlete Johnny Walker's path to the team won the Athlete Profile (College Division) category. Paul Sweeney's story "Not Just Surviving, But Thriving" about Tufts softball player Katrina Yuzefpolsky's message of hope for those afflicted by gun violence in America was the runner-up in the Athlete Profile category.

In the Coach/Administrator Profile (College Division) category, Kris Dufour's story on former Amherst men's basketball head coach David Hixon's selection to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame was the winner.

District winners advance to the national ballot, with national winners in each of the seven categories to be announced later this month.
