NESCAC Player of the Week
Hayden Kern – Middlebury – So. – G – Austin, Texas
Kern helped Middlebury complete an incredible 15-7 comeback against Trinity on Saturday in the program’s 1,000th game. Trailing 7-3 at the intermission, Kern shut out the Bantams in the second half, tallying eight stops during 30 minutes of action. The Panther came alive during the third frame, denying all six shots faced while finishing the contest with his ninth double-digit save total (13) this year.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Brendan Reilly (Manhasset, N.Y.) scored eight goals and added two assists in three games for the Mammoths, who went 1-2. The rookie also had two ground balls during the week.
Bowdoin – Senior
Will Byrne (Darien, Conn.) scored four goals and dished out five assists in a 19-8 win Monday over Amherst.
Colby –
Gavin Rothenberg (Westport, Conn.) tallied four goals and an assist in a setback at Williams on Saturday. The first-year had a hand in Colby's first four scores.
Conn. College –
Lorenzo Vogliano (New York, N.Y.) posted a team-high six points for the Camels last week. The sophomore recorded two goals and an assist in a 10-8 loss to Trinity and had three helpers in a 13-6 setback against Hamilton.
Hamilton -
Jesse Delinsky (Washington, D.C.) set career highs with five goals and six points in a 13-6 win at Connecticut College. Delinsky added two caused turnovers against the Camels. The sophomore recorded two ground balls and a caused turnover in a 19-8 victory against SUNY Oneonta.
Trinity – Junior
Jordan Opdahl (Denver, Colo.) posted a .603 save percentage in both conference games where the Bantams went 1-1. Opdahl made 12 stops in a 10-8 win over Conn. College and recorded 23 saves in a 15-7 setback to Middlebury.
Tufts -
Joey Waldbaum (Denver, Colo.) had a strong week for the Jumbos with wins over two ranked foes, defeating Babson and Amherst College at home. Waldbaum scored his first goal of the season this week, but his defensive work was stellar as he tallied four caused turnovers and picked up six ground balls. Waldbaum helped hold Babson to just 11 goals, well below their season average of 16 per game. The junior also tallied four ground balls and three caused turnovers against Babson. Saturday against Amherst, Waldbaum usually a defender switched to play at long-stick-middie and tallied two ground balls, a caused turnover, and scored a goal in the second quarter to spurn a 14-13 comeback win over Amherst.
Wesleyan –
DJ Dixon (Troy, Mich.) posted nine points on five goals and four assists to help lead the Cardinals to a pair of home wins over Springfield and Bowdoin last week. Dixon started with one goal and a season-high three assists in Wednesday's 21-8 win over Springfield. The senior followed that up with four goals and one assist, matching his season-high in goals and points, as the Cardinals dealt Bowdoin its first NESCAC defeat of the season in a 16-12 triumph in Middletown.
Williams –
Calvin Caputo (Pennington, N.J.) totaled seven goals and two assists in a 2-0 week for the Ephs. The senior finished with four goals and two assists, including assisting on the game-winning tally, in the Ephs’ 12-7 victory over visiting Colby on Saturday. Caputo recorded a hat trick, including the game-winning goal, in a 14-12 triumph at MIT on Tuesday.
