Every Tuesday throughout the swimming & diving season, the NESCAC Performers of the Week will be announced. The men's swimming & diving performer of the week and honor roll performers for February 6 are listed below.
NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week
Harrison Hong - Wesleyan - Jr. - Carmel, Calif.
Hong delivered
multiple outstanding performances at Wesleyan’s home meet against Conn. College. The junior kicked off the day with a 21.8 relay split during the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay. Moving on to the 100 butterfly, Hong set a varsity 50 butterfly record with a 22.39 start and finished strong with a time of 48.12, not only breaking the varsity record but also securing the 10th fastest time in the country. In the 100 IM, Hong made history by ending a 30-year streak of no Wesleyan swimmer on the pool record board. Hong achieved both a pool and school record of 51.81 where he showcased his versatility in every stroke. Just under three minutes later, Hong led off the 200 freestyle relay with another impressive 21.8 split, capping off a phenomenal day of racing.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Conn. College – Senior
Will Nash (Chatham, N.J.) posted an unshaved best time in the 200 freestyle (1:43.92) and a lifetime best in the 500 freestyle (4:44.35) to help the Camels defeat Wesleyan on Saturday.
Hamilton –
Nathaniel Taft (Fairfield, Conn.) posted strong swims in Hamilton's two-meet weekend versus Tufts and RPI. Against Tufts, Taft anchored the second-place 200 medley relay (20.38), won the 100 freestyle (45.68), placed second in the 50 butterfly (23.25), and led off the second-place 200 freestyle relay (by time) (21.17). Against RPI, Taft led off the 200 medley relay with a (23.43) backstroke split, followed up with a win in the 100 backstroke with a school record time of 50.08. Taft also placed first in the 50 freestyle (20.86) and anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay (20.58).
Trinity –
Matthew Brown (Beverly, Mass.) posted five-lifetime bests and broke two pool records versus Springfield last week. Brown swam off events to mix it up and posted some impressive times. Starting in the 200 mixed medley, Brown posted a split of 24.24 in backstroke which is a lifetime best. The senior followed up with another lifetime best in the 100 butterfly (51.44) with a lifetime best split of 24.08. Brown also swam the 100 breaststroke, dropping three seconds from his best time (1:00.31) and going out in a lifetime best split of 28.20. Finally, Brown led off the 800 freestyle relay in a time of 1:43.86, breaking the pool record for the 200 freestyle and just 0.2 off his best time.
Tufts - Junior
Eric Lundgren (Fairfax, Va.) had a great meet against Hamilton winning the 400 IM (4:13.50) and the 100 IM (53.51) and anchored the second-place 200 freestyle relay (21.60).
Williams -
Jack Marquardt (Charlotte, N.C.) overcame significant health adversity outside the pool to post impressive performances in the 200 IM, 400 IM, 200 breaststroke, and 400 freestyle relay at the Middlebury Invitational. The senior swam two lifetime-best times, one in the 200 IM (1:51.79), and later in the weekend, in the 200 breaststroke clocking in at 2:01.48 to not only secure a personal best but also claim the fourth spot on the Williams Swimming and Diving All-Time list. Marquardt's excellence continued in the 400 IM, where he narrowly missed his best time but still posted a formidable 4:05.15. To cap off the weekend, Marquardt contributed to a speedy 400 freestyle relay, splitting an impressive 47.32.
