The NESCAC has released its Players of the Week for the week of February 26. The conference recognizes student-athletes for each sport based on their contributions to their team each week. This week student-athletes are honored in the sports of men's basketball and women's basketball and men's and women's ice hockey.
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Dana Smith - Trinity - Gr. - Providence, R.I.
Smith was a force on both ends of the floor during the Bantams' run to the NESCAC crown. In an 80-68 win over No. 4 Tufts in the NESCAC Semifinals, Smith grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds with five points and a game-high five assists. In the championship game versus Williams, Smith logged 15 points with six rebounds as the Bantams captured their first conference title since 2008.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Sydney Jones – Bowdoin – Jr. – G – Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Jones
averaged 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 3.5 steals per game while shooting 93.7 percent from the foul line (15-for-16) to lead the Bowdoin Polar Bears to their 10th NESCAC Women's Basketball Championship and first since 2020. In a semifinal victory over No. 4 Middlebury, Jones scored 18 of her 22 points in the second half as Bowdoin erased a six-point halftime deficit to post a 61-54 win to advance to the championship game. In the final versus No. 3 Bates, Jones posted a stat line of 15 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and three steals.
Men's Ice Hockey Player of the Week | Weekly Release & Honor Roll
Tyler Sedlak - Tufts - Jr. - F - Wyckoff, N.J.
Sedlak scored a hat trick in Tufts' 5-3 win over Connecticut College in the NESCAC Quarterfinals on Saturday. It was the first home NESCAC playoff win ever for the Jumbos. Tufts trailed 2-0 early but came back to tie it 2-2 in the second period. Then Sedlak scored two goals one minute apart late in the second to give Tufts a 4-2 lead. After the Camels had pulled within 4-3 in the third period, Sedlak scored an empty-net goal in the final minute to seal the victory. Sedlak’s hat trick was 10th in NESCAC Championship history.
Women's Ice Hockey Player of the Week | Weekly Release & Honor Roll
Mac Donovan - Hamilton - G - So. - Falls Church, Va.
Donovan made 24 saves in a 2-0 NESCAC Quarterfinal win over No. 5 Trinity in the sophomore's first postseason start. Donovan stopped six shots in the last 13 minutes as the Bantams tried to make a late push at a comeback in the third period.
