Every Tuesday throughout the swimming & diving season, the NESCAC Performers of the Week will be announced. The men's swimming & diving performer of the week and honor roll performers for December 10 are listed below.
NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week
Eric Lundgren - Tufts - Sr. - Fairfax, Va.
At the MIT Invitational, Lundgren had one of the best overall performances by a Tufts swimmer in the program's history. Over the three-day, five-session meet, Lundgren swam 14 times and set or was part of five team records and many NCAA qualifying performances. Highlights were freestyle relay splits of 19.65, 43.90, and 1:37.10 in the 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle, and 800 Freestyle relays (the 200 freestyle relay was a school record). In the medley relays, both school records, Lundgren led off the backstroke legs with splits of 22.20 and 47.28 (school record). The senior also time-trialed the 400 IM breaking Tufts oldest school record with a time of 3:55.77.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Bates –
Marrich Somridhivej (South Windsor, Conn.) had a tremendous weekend of racing at the Maine State Championships. Highlights include a victory and meet record in the 50 breaststroke (25.2) and a victory and NCAA B-Cut time in the 100 breaststroke (55.04). Somridhivej rounded out the breaststroke events with a lifetime in-season best time of 207.8 in the 200 breaststroke. The junior also split his lifetime best 20.2 in the 200 freestyle relay and helped the winning and record-setting 200 medley relay with a 24.4 split for the breaststroke leg.
Bowdoin –
Raphael Grand’Pierre (Atlanta, Ga.) was integral to a great team effort in the Maine State Championships. The sophomore finished second in the 50 freestyle (20.77), third in the 100 freestyle (45.82), and fifth in the 100 butterfly (50.91). Grand’Pierre was also a huge part of all four relays.
Colby -
Brandon Xiong (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) led Colby at the Maine State Championships winning the 50 freestyle with a lifetime best time of 20.53 and the 50 backstroke with a time of 22.78. The junior also placed second in the 100 backstroke (50.66) and posted a personal best time of 52.50 in the 100 butterfly.
Hamilton –
Matthew Chang (Leonia, N.J.) scored 60 individual points at the Bomber Invitational at Ithaca, helping Hamilton to a third-place finish overall. Chang broke a 30-year-old school record in the 200 butterfly, winning the meet event in a time of 1:51.11. Full stats below. The rookie also posted times of 24.27 in the 50 backstroke, 50.77 in the 100 backstroke, 1:51.54 in the 200 backstroke, 1:55.20 in the 200 IM, and went 47/06 in the 100 freestyle.
Trinity –
Owen Schmidt (South Hamilton, Mass.) had a great meet at the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Cup at Wesleyan. The junior achieved lifetime-best scores on both 1-meter (183.20) and 3-meter (205.05) boards and placed second on both boards securing 36 individual points for the Bantams.
Wesleyan –
Brody Schrepfer (Reisterstown, Md.) had a strong outing in the pool, breaking four school records. In his first of three sessions, Schrepfer swam the 200 IM in a time of 1:55.0 and posted a split of 56.3 in the breaststroke leg of the 400 medley relay (school record). In the second session, the rookie chose to swim his first 100 butterfly of the season and went a 51.4. A few events later in the 100 breaststroke, Schrepfer broke his second school record with a swim of 56.50. In that same session, Schrepfer helped his teammates secure the win and another school record in the 200 medley relay with a 24.9 split in the breaststroke. Schrepfer closed out the meet posting a school-record time of 2:04.50 in the 200 breaststroke.
Williams –
Aidan Lee (Scarsdale, N.Y.) had a great set of performances that helped the Ephs have a strong showing on the middle day of the Gompei Invitational at WPI. The sophomore won the 400 IM with an in-season best time of 4:05.76, was a key member of the 400 medley relay – splitting 51.64 and 52.04 in prelims and finals – and had a solid time trial in the 200 IM (1:54.76).
