HADLEY, Mass. – A record eight NESCAC teams were among the 64 teams selected for the 2024 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. Conn. College, the NESCAC Champions, earned an automatic bid while Amherst, Bowdoin, Hamilton, Middlebury, Tufts, Wesleyan, and Williams were at-large selections.
The Camels (10-2-6), the No. 6 seed in the NESCAC Tournament, handed No. 2-seed Middlebury its first loss of the season with a 3-1 win at Middlebury to claim Conn. College’s first NESCAC title in program history. The Camels, the 2021 NCAA Champions, are making their sixth NCAA appearance in seven seasons and eighth overall. Conn. College will host a regional and faces Suffolk on November 16.
Amherst (11-2-3), the 2015 NCAA Champions, are making their 22nd appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Mammoths, who have been the national runner-up three times, are in the tournament field for the 11th straight season. Amherst, was the No. 3 seed in the NESCAC Tournament but fell in penalty kicks to No. 6 Conn. College in the quarterfinals. The Mammoths were selected to host a regional and face Neumann in the first round on November 16.
Bowdoin (7-5-5), the No. 8 seed in the NESCAC Tournament, reached the NESCAC Semifinals after upsetting top-seeded Tufts. The Polar Bears won a penalty kick shootout to advance in the tournament but fell to No. 2 Middlebury in the semifinals. Bowdoin is making its 10th trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since 2022. The Polar Bears will travel to San Antonio, Texas to play Hardin-Simmons in a regional hosted by Trinity (Texas) on November 15.
Hamilton (7-6-3), the No. 7 seed in the NESCAC Tournament, returns to the NCAA field for the first time since 2007 as an at-large selection and is making its fifth appearance overall. The Continentals will face Calvin on November 15 in a regional hosted by Kenyon.
Middlebury (14-1-3), an at-large selection, was one of five unbeaten teams in Division III prior to the setback to Conn. College in the NESCAC Championship match. The Panthers, the 2007 NCAA Champion, are making their seventh straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and 16th overall. Middlebury will host first and second round games on November 16 and 17 and play Hunter in its opening match.
Tufts (11-0-5) received an at-large section is one of three unbeaten teams remaining in Division III. The Jumbos, who were the No. 1 seed in the NESCAC Tournament were bounced in the quarterfinal round by Bowdoin on penalty kicks. Tufts, which owns four NCAA titles (last: 2019) is making its 13th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 10th in a row. The Jumbos’ 11-0-5 record is the best since 2018. Tufts was selected to host a four-team regional at Bello Field on November 16 and 17 and will meet Westfield State in the first game on Saturday.
Wesleyan (7-4-5) was the No. 5 seed in the NESCAC Tournament and is an at-large selection in the NCAA field. The Cardinals, who are 2-1-3 in their last six outings, are making their first appearance since 2012 and sixth overall. Wesleyan faces Saint Joseph (CT) on November 16 in a match played at Babson.
Williams (10-4-3) received an at-large spot in the NCAA Tournament and will host first and second round games on November 16 and 17 at Cole Field. The Ephs, the No. 4 seed in the NESCAC Tournament, advanced to the semifinals but dropped a 2-1 decision to eventual NESCAC Champion Conn. College. Williams was selected to the field for the 21st time overall and is making its first appearance since 2022 when the Ephs finished as the national runner up. Wiliams won the NCAA title in 1995 and has been the runner-up twice. The Ephs will play Manhattanville in its opening game of the tournament.
