Three from NESCAC Earn United Soccer Coaches Academic Honors in Men's Soccer

The United Soccer Coaches recently announced its Scholar All-American and Scholar All-Region men's soccer squads, Bowdoin senior Tyler Huck and Tufts junior Xavier Canfin were named to both squads, while fellow Jumbo Daniel Yanez earned All-Region honors.

United Soccer Coaches Scholar Awards recognize student-athletes for balancing academic excellence with on-field performance. Criteria involve a minimum of a 3.40 cumulative grade point average, while playing in 75 percent of the games and earning All-Conference, All-Region or All-American on the field. Players are nominated by their head coach.

The NESCAC Player of the Year, Huck is a computer science major, owning a 3.87 GPA and is the Bowdoin's first CSC Academic All-American First Team selection in men's soccer for Bowdoin since 2000. On the field, Huck finished his career as the second-leading scorer in program history, finishing his career with 34 goals, 19 assists, and 87 points. His 13-goal, eight-assist campaign led the conference in scoring. He was named a Third Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches.

The Polar Bears finished one of the most successful seasons in program history with a 12-4-4 record, Elite Eight appearance, and year-end No. 5 ranking in the final Division III poll.

Canfin was tabbed to the Scholar All-East Region First Team and Scholar All-American Second Team honors, while Yanez picked up Scholar All-Region Second Team for their work on the field and in the classroom.

Canfin is coming off a season that saw him earn All-NESCAC First Team, while also picking up All-Region and All-American as well as CSC Academic All-District honors. Canfin, who carries a 3.79 GPA in economics, scored the game-winning goal in both the NESCAC and NCAA title games, and led the Jumbos in scoring with eight goals and six assists. He's the first Tufts honoree on this list since Ian Daly in 2022.

Yanez, who has a 3.92 GPA in economics, was an All-NESCAC honoree and a CSC Academic All-American, after playing in all 24 games, starting 23 times while netting five goals to go with two assists. He scored all five of his penalties this season, as each ended up being a game-winning goal.

The Jumbos finished the 2025 season as NCAA champions for the fifth team, going 20-1-3 and also finishing the regular season as the top seed while winning the NESCAC Tournament for the fourth time.
