NESCAC Player of the Week
Laura Mendell – Amherst – So. – G – Westport, Mass.
Mendell averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.5 steals in a pair of NESCAC wins last week. In a 68-66 double-overtime win over Trinity, Mendell scored a career-high 23 points, including seven points and four crucial free throws to end the fourth quarter, while adding five assists, two rebounds, and two steals. In a come-from-behind 49-46 win over Wesleyan, the sophomore netted 17 points to go with five steals, three assists, and two rebounds, plus a blocked shot. Mendell scored five of Amherst’s 13 fourth-quarter points and was 3-for-3 from the charity stripe to help the Mammoths complete the comeback against the Cardinals.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Bates –
Sarah Hughes (Rumson, N.J.) tallied a career-high 19 points to pace the Bobcats in a 65-54 win over Middlebury on Friday. The newcomer hit five 3-pointers in the contest and grabbed seven rebounds. Hughes followed up by nearly tallying a double-double in an 86-70 win over Williams on Saturday, finishing with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds. The guard drained two 3-pointers against the Ephs to finish the week shooting 7-for-11 (64.0%) from beyond the arc and averaged 14.5 points and 8.0 rebounds over the two games. The Bobcats who never trailed in either game are 6-0 in NESCAC action, tied with Bowdoin for first place in the conference. Hughes ranks third on the team this year in scoring and second in field goal percentage.
Conn. College –
Catie Donadio (Clinton, Conn.) averaged 9.5 points per game last week to lead the Camels. The senior finished with eight points at Bowdoin before posting season-highs of 11 points and seven rebounds at Colby. Donadio shot 53.8 percent for the week and went a perfect 5-for-5 at the foul line.
Colby –
Lydia Mordarski (Mansfield, Mass.) helped the Mules snap a five-game losing skid with a decisive win over Conn. College in their lone game of the week. The sophomore tallied 15 points in 26 minutes of action to mark her third consecutive double-digit scoring performance.
Hamilton –
Emily Hall (Phoenix, Ariz.) averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in two games. Hall led the Continentals with 19 points and five assists and added five boards in a 65-47 win against Wesleyan. The senior point guard finished with eight points and six rebounds in a 74-46 setback against Trinity. Hall shot 50 percent (11-of-22) from the field in the two games.
Middlebury -
Augusta Dixon (Charleston, S.C.) tallied her sixth-straight double-double on Saturday while averaging 22.5 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per contest. The Panther led all players with career-highs in points (35) and blocks (5) in a 90-82 triple-overtime triumph against Tufts on Saturday. In the three extra sessions, Dixon tallied 10 points and six boards, including four straight points that gave Middlebury the lead for good. The junior is the only NESCAC player averaging double-digits in rebounding (10.3 rpg), while totaling eight double-doubles this season.
Trinity – Senior
Reilly Campbell (Wallingford, Conn.) paced the Bantams' offense, averaging a double-double of 16.5 points and 10.0 rebounds with 3.5 assists. In a double-overtime thriller at Amherst, Campbell registered 24 points and 15 rebounds with four assists.
Tufts –Senior
Maggie Russell (Morristown, N.J.) averaged 27.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game for the Jumbos as Tufts defeated Williams while falling to Middlebury in triple overtime. For the weekend, Russell shot 51.4 percent from the field while going 13-of-18 at the free-throw line. Russell posted a double-double of 29 points and 11 rebounds against Williams Friday night, shooting 11-of-20 from the field, and then tallied 25 points against Middlebury and pulled in seven boards ibefore fouling out.
Williams –
Arianna Gerig (Westport, Conn.) averaged 17.5 points, going 13-for-16 from the foul line, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game in a pair of games for the Ephs. The junior tied a career-high with 16 rebounds, to go along with 11 points, six assists, and five steals against visiting Tufts on Friday evening. Against Bates on Saturday, Gerig finished with a game-high 24 points, going 10-for-12 from the foul line, to go along with five rebounds and four blocks.
