HADLEY, Mass. – Tufts senior Jack Boyden was selected as the 2023 NESCAC Player of the Year, Amherst first-year Bob Gross was named the NESCAC Rookie of the Year, and Tufts Head Coach Casey D'Annolfo garnered Coach of the Year honors as voted on by the conference coaches.
Boyden, a two-time All-NESCAC First Team selection, has scored 49 goals to go with a NESCAC-leading 70 assists for the Jumbos. The attack leads the NESCAC in points per game (7.44) and owns the top three individual scoring performances in the league this season, totaling 13 points versus Amherst and Stevens and registering an 11-point effort against Middlebury. The Jumbos claimed the No. 1 seed in the NESCAC Championship with an unbeaten mark of 10-0 and carry a 16-0 record into the NESCAC Semifinals which will be played at Tufts on May 6. Boyden is the seventh Jumbo to be named NESCAC Player of the Year and 2023 marks the ninth time since 2001 a Tufts player has been honored.
Gross has 74 points on 41 goals, including seven with an extra player, and 33 assists in his first season at Amherst. Gross ranks 10th in assists and fifth in points per game (4.93) among the conference leaders. Amherst earned the No. 4 seed and posted an 18-16 win over No. 5 Bowdoin in the quarterfinals. Gross netted six goals in the game, including the go-ahead marker with 1:35 remaining in the contest. Gross is the fourth Amherst player to be selected as NESCAC Rookie of the Year. The Mammoths will face top-seeded Tufts in the NESCAC Semifinals.
D'Annolfo was voted the NESCAC Coach of the Year by his peers for the first time in his seven years at the helm of the Jumbos. D'Annolfo is the second Tufts coach to garner the Coach of the Year accolade joining Mike Daly who won the award three times. D'Annolfo directed the Jumbos, the four-time defending NESCAC Champion, to the No. 1 seed for the eighth time in program history with a perfect 10-0 record this season. Tufts is the only unbeaten team in Division III (16-0) and the Jumbos' unbeaten regular-season record marked the sixth time since 2001 a team has gone unbeaten in NESCAC play. D'Annolfo owns a career record of 98-14, including a 48-7 mark in conference play, on the Tufts sideline.
