Amherst & Hamilton Reach NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Semifinals

HADLEY, Mass. – NESCAC teams will make up half of the Final Four of the NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Championship after the Amherst Mammoths blanked NESCAC foe Colby, 4-0, and Hamilton traveled to Adrian and shutout the Bulldogs, 2-0. In the third quarterfinal involving a NESCAC squad, Plattsburgh State downed defending NCAA Champion Middlebury, 4-2.

Amherst and Hamilton will meet in a rematch of the NESCAC Championship game in one national semifinal while Plattsburgh State and Gustavus Adolphus matchup in the other semifinal on Friday, March 17. The winners will square off in the national championship game on Sunday, March 19. All three games will be played at Orr Rink on the campus of Amherst College.

  • After two scoreless periods, Amherst struck four times in the final frame to defeat Colby, 4-0.
  • Mave Reynolds gave Amherst a 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals at 2:47 and 4:34 of the third period.
  • Alyssa Xu pushed the Mammoths’ lead to 3-0 with her ninth goal of the season at the 5:07 mark.
  • Carley Daley closed out the scoring at 14:52 of the frame for the final 4-0 margin.
  • Natalie Stott was credited with 28 saves to post her 13th shutout of the year which leads Division III.
  • Paige Bolyard made 26 saves for the Mules.
  • Amherst enters the semifinals having won four straight games.

  • Records: Hamilton (22-5-2) / Adrian (26-4-0)
  • In their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the Hamilton Continentals are headed to the national semifinals following at 2-0 win at Adrian in the quarterfinal round.
  • After a scoreless first period, Cuora Sullivan scored late in the second period off assists from Grace Crowley and Allie Currie to give Hamilton a 1-0 advantage.
  • The Continentals clung to the one-goal lead until the final seconds of the game when Abby Smith added an empty net goal to lift Hamilton past Adrian, 2-0.
  • Evie Sheridan made 31 saves, including 11 in the second and third periods each, to pick up the shutout victory in the Hamilton net. Sophie Goldberg made 15 saves for the Bulldogs.
  • Hamilton will face familiar foe Amherst in the national semifinal on March 17. It will be a rematch of the NESCAC Championship game which the Mammoths won, 5-0.
Plattsburgh State def. Middlebury, 4-2 | Box Score
  • Records: Plattsburgh State (26-2-0) / Middlebury (17-8-3)
  • After skating to a 1-1 tie at the first intermission, Plattsburgh State scored twice in the second frame to take a 3-1 lead and hung on for a 4-2 victory over defending national champion Middlebury.
  • Emma McLean scored just 1:51 into the contest to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
  • Middlebury’s Claudia Vira evened the score at 1-1 at 9:47 of the first period. Eva Hendrikson and Raia Schluter set up Vira for the marker.
  • Just over midway through the second period, Sara Krauseneck pushed Plattsburgh State back in front with her goal at 11:09. It would be a lead the Cardinals would not relinquish the rest of the way.
  • Ivy Boric helped Plattsburgh State build a 3-1 lead with a goal just before the second intermission at 18:48.
  • Middlebury pulled within one at the 6:01 mark as Britt Nawrocki finished off assists from Jenna Letterie and Sabrina Kim at 6:01 of the final period.
  • Nicole Unswork added an empty net tally at 19:53 to secure the win for the Cardinals.
  • Ashely Davis made 28 saves in the Plattsburgh State net while Sophia Merageas was credited with 33 stops for Middlebury.
