2023 NESCAC Women's Basketball Championship Seeds Announced

HADLEY, Mass. – The Tufts Jumbos are the top seed in the 2023 NESCAC Women’s Basketball Championship. Quarterfinal games will be played on February 18 at the higher seed while the semifinals and final will be held at the highest remaining seed on February 25 and 26.

No. 5 Hamilton at No. 4 Middlebury – 2 p.m.
Semifinal - Saturday, Feb. 25 at highest remaining seed

2022 NESCAC Championship Recap
Due to COVID protocols impacting teams throughout the season and creating a disparity in the number of games played last year, the NESCAC membership agreed to modify the NESCAC Women’s Basketball Championship and all 11 teams were eligible for the tournament. Trinity was the No. 1 seed for the first time in program history and hosted the semifinals and final. The Bantams were joined by Amherst, Bates, and Tufts in the semifinal round. Amherst and Bates advanced to the championship game with the Bobcats making their first appearance in the final since 2006. Bates held off the Mammoths to earn a 51-42 victory for the Bobcats’ first NESCAC title.
 
#1 Tufts Jumbos

Notes: 2022 NESCAC Semifinalist … Tufts is the No. 1 seed for the sixth time in program history and the first time since 2020 … The Jumbos are making their 20th consecutive appearance in the NESCAC Championship and have made eight straight trips to the semifinals … The Jumbos closed out the regular season with a six-game win streak and will host No. 8 Bowdoin in the quarterfinals … Tufts defeated the Polar Bears, 66-54, on February 4 in the regular season … The NESCAC Tournament series stands tied at 5-5 … Bowdoin won the most recent matchup, the 2020 championship game, to capture its ninth conference title … The Jumbos have played in 10 championship games and won their third NESCAC crown in 2019, defeating Bowdoin in Brunswick, Maine.

Tiebreaker:  Middlebury, Hamilton, Amherst and Bates all finished with identical conference records of 5-5. In head-to-head competition, Middlebury and Hamilton went 2-1 and Amherst and Bates went 1-2. In comparing Middlebury and Hamilton head-to-head, Middlebury defeated Hamilton to earn the No. 4 seed, with Hamilton the No. 5 seed. In comparing Amherst and Bates head-to-head, Amherst defeated Bates to earn the No. 6 seed, with Bates the No. 7 seed.
