Every Tuesday throughout the swimming & diving season, the NESCAC Performers of the Week will be announced. The men's swimming & diving performer of the week and honor roll performers for December 5 are listed below.
NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week
Emmett Adams – Tufts – Jr. – Fairfield, Conn.
At the MIT Invitational, Adams helped the Jumbos win the meet. For the weekend Adams raced a total of 14 races over 48 hours. Highlights of his racing were a lifetime-best, Tufts school record, and NESCAC record in the 100 IM (50.62), lifetime-best splits in both medley relays (breaststroke legs: 24.23, 54.16), lifetime-best in the 100 breaststroke (55.60) and some great freestyle relay splits (1:41.62, 45.52, 20.62).
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Bates – Senior
Wil Dewey (Ithaca, N.Y.) had one of the best meets possible. A walk-on four years ago, Dewey was a major contributor last weekend and worked his way onto all the Bates freestyle relays with huge drops. At the Maine Collegiate Invite, he posted his best times in every event he swam. In the freestyle, he swam times of 21.8, 47.4, and split 21.1 and 46.6. In his off events, Dewey posted a time of 53.1 in the butterfly, 53.8 in the 100 IM, and 28.3 and 1:01.3 in the breaststroke. Dewey finished the three-session meet with six lifetime bests and scored in every event.
Bowdoin –
Jaran Depew (Santa Barbara, Calif.) had a breakout Maine Collegiate Invitational last weekend. The newcomer swam a lifetime-best in the 200 IM (1:55.10) for third place, won the 200 freestyle with a personal best of 1:43.3, and won the 200 butterfly (1:51.78), which was right on his PR.
Colby - At the Maine Collegiate Invitational
Brandon Xiong (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) set meet, and Colby records in the 50 backstroke (22.67) and 100 backstroke (49.74). At the time of posting, the times are also the fastest performances in NESCAC this season. The sophomore also placed second in both the 50 freestyle (20.80) and 100 freestyle (46.19). All four times were lifetime bests for Xiong and his efforts helped lead Colby to its second straight state championship title.
Conn. College - Junoir
Justin Finkel (Cheshire, Conn.) won the 50 and 100 freestyle events with times of 20.81 and 45.35 and placed first in the 100 and 200 butterfly races (49.29 and 1:49.06) Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships, formally known as the CT Cup, last weekend.
Hamilton –
Nathaniel Taft (Fairfield, Conn.) swam in four individual events and four relays last weekend. The rookie placed first in the 200 freestyle (1:40.52), second in the 100 freestyle (45.57), third in the 50 freestyle (20.76), and fifth in the 100 backstroke (51.54). Taft competed in the 200 medley relay posting a time of 20.60 in the freestyle leg. The newcomer was also a part of the 200, 400, and 800 freestyle relays for the Continentals. He led off the 200 (20.90) and 400 (46.32) relays and swam the anchor leg of the 800 (1:42.29).
Trinity –
Tadija Ciric (Nis, Serbia) had a fantastic meet coming very close to his best times and scoring major points for the Bantams. The rookie swam the 50 freestyle (22.19), 100 butterfly (52.87), and 200 butterfly (1:54.16) to score 44 individual points. Ciric took second place in the 200 butterfly and was less than a second off of his best time. The newcomer also contributed in the 200 (23.00 fly) and 400 (51.93 fly) medley relays and the 200 (21 mid) and 400 (48.84 leadoff) freestyle relays. Ciric efforts helped Trinity finish third at the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships, formally known as the CT Cup.
Wesleyan – Junior
Harrison Hong (Carmel, Ca.) had a great weekend of racing getting a few best times. Hong posted a time of 49.9 in the 100 butterfly and led off the freestyle relays in 21.1 and 47.1 seconds at the Jayden Szkirka Memorial Championships, formally known as the CT Cup. He was also a vital member in the medley relays in the backstroke leg with splits of 24.4 and 51 seconds.
