2023 NESCAC Women's Soccer Awards Released

HADLEY, Mass. – The New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its women's soccer awards on Wednesday.

Williams senior midfielder Jaquelin Nordhoff was named the NESCAC Player of the Year, Amherst junior Charlotte Huang was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year, and the Rookie of the Year honor was shared by Amherst's Precious Novidzro and Gigi Day of Middlebury. The Amherst staff was named the Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers.

Nordhoff is the eighth Williams player and second in four years to be named NESCAC Player of the Year. Nordhoff leads the Ephs in scoring with 11 points on four goals and three assists. She helped Williams grab the No. 2 seed in the NESCAC Championship with a 6-2-2 conference record. Nordhoff netted the game-clinching penalty kick in a shootout to lift the Ephs past No. 7 Hamilton in the quarterfinal round. Williams was an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament and will face Endicott in a game played at Messiah in the first round. The Ephs are making their 22nd NCAA Tournament appearance.

Huang is the winner of the inaugural Defensive Player of the Year award. Huang, a three-time All-NESCAC selection, helped Amherst clinch the No. 1 seed in the NESCAC Women's Soccer Championship with an 8-1-1 conference mark. Huang has anchored an Amherst defense that has allowed a league-low nine goals this season, has won seven one-goal games, and shut out opponents 12 times. Huang helped the Mammoths repeat as NESCAC Champions and claim their seventh title overall.

The 2023 season marks the first time since 2000 that the Rookie of the Year honor is shared by two players. Novidzro is the second Amherst player in three seasons and the fifth overall to be named NESCAC Rookie of the Year. The first year ranks third on the Amherst team in scoring with 15 points, scoring six goals, including three game-winners, and adding three assists. Novidzro and the Mammoths earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning back-to-back NESCAC titles and will face Maine Maritime in the opening round at Babson.

Day is the first Middlebury Panther to be named NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Day, who also earned a spot on the All-NESCAC Second Team, ranked second on the team with 12 points behind a team-best six goals, including a pair of game-winning tallies.

The Amherst coaches were voted as the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers. It marks the second consecutive year Amherst coaches earn the honor and the fourth time since 2011. Under the direction of head coach Jen Hughes, the Mammoths went 8-1-1 in the NESCAC and stand at 16-1-1 overall Hughes guided the Mammoths to the No. 1 seed in the NESCAC Women's Soccer Championship and won the title for the seventh time and first time in back-to-back seasons.
