NESCAC Player of the Week
Alyssa Xu – Amherst – Jr. – F – Bayside, New Brunswick
Xu netted the game-winner Saturday as Amherst opened its season with a 2-1 overtime win against Hamilton. The junior assisted on both Mammoth goals on Sunday, including the game-winner in the third period, as Amherst completed the two-game sweep of Hamilton with another 2-1 victory.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Bowdoin – Junior
Gia Massari (Feasterville-Trevose, Pa.) scored two goals as Bowdoin defeated Williams 3-2 on Friday night.
Conn. College - Sophomore goalie
Devon Galizio (Wayland, Mass.) led Connecticut College to a season-opening win on Friday over Wesleyan, 3-2 in overtime. Galizio stopped 38 of 40 shots for a .950 save percentage, as the Camels earned the extra point against the Cardinals.
Hamilton –
Claire McGennis (Buffalo, N.Y.) scored a power-play goal in a 2-1 overtime setback against Amherst and added the assist on the Continentals' goal in another 2-1 loss against the Mammoths. McGennis also blocked a shot in the second game of the weekend. The senior forward has eight goals and 20 assists for 28 points in 53 career games at Hamilton.
Middlebury –
Cat Appleyard (Rye, N.Y.) scored three goals to lead Middlebury to a 2-0 weekend sweep at Trinity. The Panther found the back of the net once in Friday’s 3-0 shutout and scored twice on Saturday to help Middlebury edge the Bantams 2-1. It was Appleyard’s second multi-goal game of her career and the junior recorded her fifth career game-winning goal.
Trinity – Senior
Hannah LeClair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) helped keep the Bantams in a pair of games against Middlebury, limiting the Panther offense between the pipes. In a 3-1 loss in the season opener, LeClair logged 41 saves and then notched 30 saves in a 2-1 loss in the series finale with Middlebury.
Wesleyan –
Jenna Stevens (Avon, Conn.) opened the season with two assists in two games over the weekend as Wesleyan split a home series with Conn. College. The senior led the team with a +3 plus/minus and two blocked shots.
Williams –
Robin Kitazono (Toronto, Ontario) registered one goal and one assist, as the Ephs split their season-opening series with Bowdoin. The senior scored a power-play goal in the first period to even the score at 1-1 in an eventual 5-2 victory on Saturday. Kitazono picked up an assist on the Ephs' second-period goal, which evened the score at 2-2, in a 3-2 setback on Friday.
