NESCAC Player of the Week
Kate Olenik – Colby – Fy. – G – Medfield, Mass.
Olenik led the Mules to a 3-0 week, capped with an MVP performance at the Colby Tip-Off Classic and a victory over Babson on Sunday. In a midweek game versus MIT, Olenik scored a career-high 22 points. The newcomer tallied 16 points, five rebounds, and three steals against New England College and 13 points, three assists, two steals, and two blocks, against the Beavers in the tournament. Over the three games, the point guard averaged 17.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.7 steals, 2.3 assists, and totaled four blocks while shooting 61 percent from the floor.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst – Senior
Reeya Patel (Ann Arbor, Mich.) led the Mammoths to a 3-0 week and the SUNY-Morrisville Tip-off Tournament title. Patel averaged 12.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game for the week. In the tournament championship game versus Misericordia, Patel scored 10 points and dished out eight assists with four rebounds and two steals. In a win over Oswego State, the guard had a team-high 17 points with seven rebounds, two assists, and two blocks while shooting 50 percent (7-for-14) from the floor. She shot 40 percent (14-for-35) from the field for the week.
Bates -
Morgan Kennedy (Oklahoma City, Okla.) recorded her first career double-double in Saturday’s 58-35 win over SUNY Potsdam, grabbing a career-high 11 rebounds to go along with 22 points. The senior is leading the team in scoring (15.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.3 rpg) through three contests. Bates has started 3-0 and held each of their first three opponents to fewer than 50 points, the first time the Bobcats have accomplished both feats at the same time since 1969.
Bowdoin – Sophomore
Carly Davey (Westford, Mass.) scored a career-high 18 points to lead Bowdoin to a win over Bridgewater State on Friday.
Conn. College -
Rebecca Oberman-Levine (Hamden, Conn.) averaged a team-high 14.0 points and 5.0 rebounds last week as the Camels opened the 2023-24 season. The forward scored 13 points and three rebounds in the season opener at Framingham State and added a pair of assists. The senior earned a spot on the Trinity Tip-Off Tournament All-Tournament team after recording 20 points and five rebounds against Skidmore and nine points and seven boards against Albertus Magnus.
Hamilton –
Kendall Harris (Chapel Hill, N.C.) averaged 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.3 steals in a 3-0 week for the Continentals. Harris also shot 50 percent (19-for-38) from the floor. The first-year guard recorded season highs of 19 points and four assists in a 57-48 win at SUNY Oneonta and posted the first double-double of Harris' collegiate career with 10 points and 13 boards in a 68-58 victory against Hartwick. Harris started the week with 16 points and five steals in a 74-54 triumph against SUNY Morrisville.
Middlebury –
Alexa Mustafaj (Yonkers, N.Y.) averaged 25.0 points per game over a two-game weekend for Middlebury. The guard also totaled nine rebounds and had five steals. With 17 points in a 68-34 midweek victory over VTSU-Lyndon, Mustafaj moved into sixth place on Middlebury’s all-time scoring list with 1,122 for her career. The junior ranks second in the NESCAC with 83 points and 20.8 points per game.
Trinity –
Bria Fuller (Springdale, Md.) claimed Trinity Tip-Off Tournament MPV honors after guiding the Bantams to a pair of victories. Fuller registered a team-high 12 points with two rebounds in a 72-51 win over Albertus Magnus. The senior added nine points, six rebounds, and three blocks in a 51-38 win over Skidmore in the championship game.
Tufts – Senior
Maggie Russell (Morristown, N.J.) helped the Jumbos to a pair of wins against New England opposition, as Tufts knocked off Roger Williams and Brandeis to finish the week 2-0. The forward averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds for the Jumbos, adding five assists while going 11-of-13 at the free-throw line. Russell also went 11-fo-20 from the floor (55.0%) for the week. Against RWU, Russell finished with 21 points, nine rebounds while going 7-of-12 in 28 minutes and totaled 14 points and eight rebounds, adding four helpers in 15 minutes of action against Brandeis.
Wesleyan – Sophomore
Olivia Quinn (Franklin, Mass.) pumped in 19 points on 5-of-6 shooting from 3-point land while adding five rebounds, two blocks, and two steals to her totals in 31 minutes. The guard hit three of her five 3-pointers in the third quarter alone which proved to be the difference in the end as the Cardinals outscored Wellesley 22-12 in the period in a 63-54 road win over the Blue.
Williams -
Arianna Gerig (Westport, Conn.) averaged 26.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.5 steals in a 1-1 weekend for the Ephs in the Morin Memorial Tournament. In the two games, Gerig shot 19-for-39 (48.7%) from the field and 13-for-15 from the foul line (86.7%). The junior scored a game-high 35 points and tied for a game-high eight rebounds in a 66-65 loss to Rhode Island College in the championship game. Gerig was 12-for-25 from the field and 11-for-12 from the free-throw line. Gerig scored a game-high 17 points, to go along with eight rebounds and five assists, in a 77-50 win over Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday.
