HADLEY, Mass. – Seniors John Lucey and Genna Girard of Williams are the NESCAC Most Outstanding Performers following the 2023 NESCAC Cross Country Championships hosted by Amherst College on October 28. The annual honor is given to the individuals who finished first at the conference championships.
Lucey, who also earned his second All-NESCAC accolade with a spot on the First Team, took home the men's title with a winning time of 24:56.1, 11 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Lucey is the fourth Eph to claim the men's title in five years and is the sixth athlete from Williams to garner the Most Outstanding Performer honor. Lucey helped the Ephs claim their fourth straight NESCAC title and 21st overall.
Girard won the women's title with a time of 21:04.9, 14 seconds faster than the field, and is the first Eph to win the individual race since 2013. Girard also earned her third All-NESCAC First Team citation and was the NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 2021. Girard is the first Eph since Kaleigh Kenny in 2013 to win the Most Outstanding Performer accolade and the fifth Williams runner overall. Girard led Williams to its fourth straight conference title and 20th overall.
First-years Harrison Dow of Amherst and Audrey MacLean of Middlebury were honored as the NESCAC Men's and Women's Rookies of the Year, respectively. Dow finished 14th overall (25:47.4) and earned a spot on the All-NESCAC Second Team in his first conference championship race. Dow is the fourth Mammoth to collect NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors and helped Amherst earn NESCAC Runners-Up honors in the team competition. MacLean was the NESCAC Runner-Up which earned her a spot on the All-NESCAC First Team with her second-place time of 21:18.9. The rookie helped Middelbury place third overall in the team standings. MacLean is the fifth Panther to be named NESCAC Rookie of the Year.
The Amherst men's cross country and Williams women's cross country coaching staffs were voted as the Coaching Staffs of the Year by their peers.
