HADLEY, Mass. – The NESCAC Men’s Track & Field Champion Tufts Jumbos swept the conference individual awards for the 2022 season. The awards were announced following the NESCAC Track & Field Championship held on April 30 at Hamilton College.
Men's Sabasteanski Award (Most Outstanding Performer): Luke Botsford, Tufts
Men's Most Outstanding Rookie: Eric Meyer, Tufts
Men's Coaching Staff of the Year: Tufts
Tufts sophomore Luke Botsford was named the Most Outstanding Performer. Botsford, the NESCAC Most Outstanding Rookie in 2021, becomes the first athlete to win the rookie honor one season and the most outstanding performer award the following year. He is the first Jumbo to garner the most outstanding performer honor since Mitchell Black (2016). Botsford helped Tufts capture the NESCAC title with wins in the 200 and 400-meter races at the NESCAC Championship meet and scored 20 points for the Jumbos.
Teammate and first-year Eric Meyer is the second straight Jumbo to be selected for the NESCAC Most Outstanding Rookie award. Botsford earned the honor last season while former Jumbos Mitchell Black (2013) and Fred Jones (2004) also garnered the award. Meyer won the hammer throw and discus in his first appearance at the NESCAC Championship meet and finished with 20 points for Tufts.
The Tufts men’s track & field coaching staff, led by Joel Williams, was voted the NESCAC Men’s Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers for the fourth time. The Jumbos won the NESCAC title for the sixth time overall and the first time since 2015.
