HADLEY, Mass. – Hamilton junior Billy Geach and head coach Lauren Cupp were named the NESCAC Men's Golfer of the Year and the NESCAC Coach of the Year, respectively, while Amherst first-year Steve Chen garnered the NESCAC Rookie of the Year honor.
Geach is the second Continental to win the NESCAC Golfer of the Year award, joining Brian Williams who won the award in 2003 and 2004. Geach led Hamilton to the Continentals' fourth NESCAC Championship and first since 2003. He led the field following the first round, shooting a 71, and added a 76 on the second day to finish third overall.
Chen is the second Mammoth to earn the NESCAC Rookie of the Year honor, joining Cameron Clark (2016). Chen was the most consistent golfer for Amherst all season and finished second at the NESCAC Championship. He recorded a round of 75 on the first day and lowered his score by five strokes (70) over the final 18-holes. The Mammoths finished fifth overall at the NESCAC Championship.
Cupp, who was the NESCAC Women's Golf Coach of the Year in 2021, wins the men's honor for the first time in her career. She directed Hamilton to its fourth NESCAC Men's Golf title and first since 2003 with a 12-stroke win at the Yahnundasis Golf Club on May 1. Hamilton also earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship.
