NESCAC Women's Soccer Awards Released

HADLEY, Mass. – Amherst’s Patience Kum is the third sophomore to be named the NESCAC Player of the Year and the seventh Mammoth to garner the award (Catherine Poor – 2001, Ashley Harmelin – 2003, Amy Armstrong – 2006, Meg Murphy – 2008, Kathryn Nathan – 2011, Rubii Tamen – 2018). Trinity first-year Elena Lindonen was voted as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year and Amherst head coach Jen Hughes was selected as the NESCAC Coach of the Year by her peers.

Kum also earned All-NESCAC honors for the second consecutive season, earning a spot on the first team after being named to the second team in 2021. The forward ranks second on the Amherst squad in scoring with 16 points on six goals and four assists. Kum has tallied 12 of her 16 points in conference games and all four game-winning goals she has tallied were against NESCAC opponents. Kum had a point in five of the final six regular season games as the Mammoths earned the No. 1 seed in the NESCAC Tournament. Amherst defeated Wesleyan in the championship match to win its sixth NESCAC title. The Mammoths earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and are making their 20th appearance in the postseason tournament.

Lindonen is the fourth Bantam to be named NESCAC Rookie of the Year (Devin Nwanagu – 2005, Jenny Ley – 2008, Abbey Lake – 2012). The forward has started 14 of 16 games this season and is tied for the team lead in points with six on three goals. Lindonen helped Trinity reach the NESCAC Semifinal round for the first time since 2016. The Bantams were an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament and are making their third appearance. Trinity will host first and second-round games for the first time in program history.

Hughes, who is in her 19th season at the helm of the Mammoths, picks up her third NESCAC Coach of the Year honor after winning the award in 2011 and 2016. She has led Amherst to three NESCAC titles and 13 NCAA appearances, including this season.
