NESCAC Cross Country Awards Announced

HADLEY, Mass. – Seniors Elias Lindgren of Williams and Mary Kate McGranahan of Amherst are the NESCAC Most Outstanding Performers following the 2022 NESCAC Cross Country Championships hosted by Hamilton College on October 29. The annual honor is given to the individuals who finished first at the conference championship.

Lindgren, the 2018 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, took home the men's title with a winning time of 23:25.8, 25 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Lindgren is the third different Eph to claim the men's title in four years and is the fifth athlete from Williams to garner the Most Outstanding Performer honor. Lindgren, who also picked up his third straight All-NESCAC First Team honor, helped the Ephs claim their 20th NESCAC title and seventh crown in the last nine years.

McGranahan won the women's title with a time of 21:15.3 and is the first Mammoth to finish in first place since Nicky Roberts in 2017. McGranahan earned her second consecutive All-NESCAC honor with a spot on the first team and helped the Mammoths posts their best finish since 2007. McGranahan is the eighth Amherst runner to garner the Most Outstanding Performer honor.

First-years Amokrane Aouchiche of Tufts and Elizabeth Holcombe of Bates were honored as the NESCAC Men's and Women's Rookies of the Year, respectively. Aouchiche finished 25th overall (25:10.3) in his first conference championship race and is the fourth Jumbo to collect NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors. Holcombe earned All-NESCAC First Team honors with a seventh-place finish and time of 21:59.6. The rookie helped Bates finish third overall in the team standings. Holcombe is the second Bobcat to earn the NESCAC Rookie of the Year honor, joining Abby Hamilton in 2017.

Colby's Jared Beers was named the NESCAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year, while Peter Farwell of Williams was the NESCAC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year, as voted by their peers. Beers earns the NESCAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year accolade for the third time in his career. He was also voted the NESCAC Men's Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2014. Beers guided the Mules to a runner-up finish and the team's best showing since 2014. Farwell earns his seventh NESCAC Women's Coach of the Year award and is the only Eph coach to garner the honor since its inception in 2000. The Ephs won their 19th NESCAC title and sixth in seven seasons and the Williams men's and women's teams swept the NESCAC crowns for the third consecutive year.

Below are the All-NESCAC Teams. The top seven finishers are recognized as All-NESCAC First Team and runners in places 8-14 are All-NESCAC Second Team honorees.
