AMHERST, Mass. – Williams continued their undefeated season as they won the 2018 NESCAC Women's Tennis Championship on Sunday with a victory over second-seeded Middlebury College at Amherst. The top-seeded Ephs battled to a 5-3 victory, sweeping doubles.
The win gives the Ephs four NESCAC titles in a row and the all-time lead in NESCAC championships with 10 and one co-championship. Previously Williams and Amherst were tied with nine titles each and the two rivals shared a co-championship.
Juli Raventos and Julia Cancio led things off for the Ephs, securing the 8-3 victory over Panthers Katherine Hughes and Skylar Schossberger. Korina Neveux and Giulia McDonnell Nieto del Rio followed with an 8-3 win before Chloe Henderson and Mia Gancayco earned an 8-5 victory to complete the Ephs' sweep of doubles.
Singles proved to be a battle, with Middlebury earning wins in #2, #3, and #4 singles. Raventos led off with a win after Christina Puccinelli forced a third set with a 7-6 (7-5) second set victory. Then, Middlebury's Hughes defeated Leah Bush while Panther Heather Boehm overcame Henderson 7-5, 6-0. Catherine Blazye earned the third and final win of the day for Middlebury with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Gancayco. Neveux battled through three sets, however, to secure the championship for the Ephs. In an unfinished match, Cancio was trailing Schossberger 3-0 before the conclusion of play.
