Williams' Doug Schaffer Named Google Cloud Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas - Williams senior first baseman and captain Doug Schaffer has been named a Google Cloud Academic All-America First Team honoree in a vote by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).


In May, Schaffer was named to the District I Google Cloud Academic All-Region I First Team and became eligible for the national honor. An economics major, he owns a 3.88 cumulative GPA.

He is the first Eph to earn Academic All-America honors in baseball since Mike Gardner was a Second Team honoree in 1996. Schaffer is the first Eph baseball player to earn First Team Academic All-America honors.

Schaffer recorded a career year in 2019, helping lead the Ephs to the top seed in the NESCAC West and an appearance in the NESCAC Championship. He led the NESCAC in batting with a .412 average and drove in 47 runs in 34 games and he was named the NESCAC Player of the Year. His 47 RBIs exceeded his total RBIs in his first three years at Williams. Schaffer knocked out 54 hits, 18 of which went for extra bases, and posted a .425 on-base percentage while slugging .595. Schaffer finished his career hitting .331 and 85 RBIs
