Why did you choose to be a Division III student-athlete?
I chose to be a Division III student-athlete because it offered the best of both worlds for me. Division III allows me to train and play at a high level of soccer, offers great academics, and pushes me to join extracurriculars outside of my sport.
You have a blank canvas, paint your perfect day. What does it look like?
My perfect day on campus is a Saturday game day. Everyone meets in Commons for a team breakfast before getting to the trainers. After the game, the parents put together a tailgate with tons of food and hanging out with our families. The day would end with dinner off the hill somewhere with friends and family.
What extracurricular activities or service activities do you participate in?
One of my favourite service activities I am involved in is the Action Against Hunger Club. This organization was started by members of the women's and men's soccer teams during my freshmen year, and has grown to have participants from all over campus since. In the club, we package leftover food from dining halls on campus and deliver it to soup kitchens around Utica.
What’s your go-to warm-up song?
“Nice for What” by Drake.
If you weren’t playing your sport, what other sport would you want to try?
If I weren’t playing my sport I would want to try hockey. I’m Canadian.
Have you studied abroad during your collegiate experience?
In my spring semester junior year I studied in Copenhagen. I chose to go there because of the great reviews I have heard from past teammates about the program and city. While being in Copenhagen, I studied biology, taking a lot of health related classes such as immunology and disease prevention.
What internships/research projectshave you participated in?
Over the summer I worked for an environmental non-profit called Wildlands League thanks to funding from Hamilton College’s Emerson Research Grant. While working, I looked at the effectiveness of their communication over social media and participated in planning nature related community outreach events. I learned a lot about what work looks like in the non-profit sector, a career path I am interested in in the future.
What’s a class outsideof your major that you surprisingly liked?
I really enjoyed a history class I took my first semester called the Environment and Capitalism taught by Professor Chao Ren. As someone who really didn’t enjoy history classes in high school, I learned to love the class because it was both engagingand challenging. Professor Ren even went out of his way to make us delicious egg fried rice on the last day of classes.
What is your favorite place on your campus?
My favorite placeon campus is KTSA lawn. On a sunny day it's the perfect green space to hang out with friends. It even has two wooden Adirondack chairs you can snag if you’re lucky.
What skill do you have that has nothing to do with your sport?
I am currently learning how to use a sewing machine with a lot of help from my grandma.
