NESCAC Releases Women's Track & Field Awards

HADLEY, Mass. – Tufts junior Simi Lawal is the NESCAC’s Sabasteanski Award winner as the Most Outstanding Performer. Middlebury newcomer Lily Haskins-Vaughan was named the Most Outstanding Rookie and the Tufts staff was selected as the Coaching Staff of the Year per a vote by the NESCAC Women's Track & Field coaches.

Lawal is the seventh Jumbo to earn the Sabasteanski Award. The sprinter won the 100-meter race in a time of 11.79 seconds which was 0.03 seconds off the NESCAC meet record. Lawal also finished second in the 200-meters (24.27) and was a member of the Tufts 4x100 relay squad that set a NESCAC meet record with a time of 46.51. Lawal is the third Jumbo to claim the 100 meter title at the championship meet and the first since Alexis Harrison won the race in 2015 and 2016. The Tufts relay won the NESCAC title in the event for the seventh time and first time since claiming four consecutive wins from 2013 through 2016. Lawal was one of six Jumbos to earn individual/relay NESCSAC Champions, the program's most since 2015.

Haskins-Vaughan won the NESCAC high jump competition with a height of 1.71 meters. She is the second Panther to garner the Most Outstanding Rookie honor in three years and the third Middlebury athlete to win the honor overall. Haskins-Vaughan is the third Panther to win the NESCAC title in the high jump in team history and the first since 2012. Her mark ranks fifth among Division III competitors.

The Tufts staff was voted as the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers after leading the Jumbos to their fifth NESCAC Women's Track & Field Championship. The staff, led by head coach Kristen Morwick and Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jamie Norton includes assistant coaches: Ben Colello, Kat Rafuse, Ingrid Gustafson, Elise Molinaro, Sophie Long, Noah Gauthier, Dave Filias). The 2026 season marks the fourth time in team history the Tufts staff has been recognized.
