NESCAC Announces Men's Track & Field Awards

HADLEY, Mass. – Wesleyan sophomore Steve Paul is the NESCAC's Sabasteanski Award winner as the Most Outstanding Performer. Williams newcomer Uly Junker was named the Most Outstanding Rookie and the Amherst staff was selected as the Coaching Staff of the Year per a vote of the NESCAC Men's Track & Field coaches.

Paul is the second Cardinal to garner the Sabasteanski Award and the first since LaDarious Drew won the honor in 2014 and 2015. Paul picked up two All-NESCAC citations during the NESCAC Championship meet. The sprinter won the 100-meter (10.59) and 200-meter (21.26)  races and was part of the Wesleyan 4x100 relay that placed fourth at the NESCAC Championships. Paul is just the second Cardinal, joining Drew, to win the 100 and 200 meter events at the conference championship meet.

Junker was one of two rookies to win an event at the NESCAC Championship meet. The first-year set a NESCAC meet and Williams school record with a mark of 7.41 to win the long jump. The mark ranked third among all Division III competitors. Junker is the sixth Eph to claim the NESCAC title in the event and the first since 2018.

The Amherst staff was voted as the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers after leading the Mammoths to the first NESCAC title in program history. The staff, led by head coach Steve Rubin includes assistant coaches: Hannah Chappell-Dick, John Murphy, Andre Dubois, Chase Worthen, and Lauren Roy. The 2026 season marks the second time in three years and the second time in team history the Amherst staff has been recognized.
