Why did you choose to attend Bates
I chose to attend Bates because of its strong sense of community and the opportunity to grow both academically and athletically. I feel supported here in challenging myself both in the classroom and in competition. Most importantly, I am grateful for the kindness that comes from all of my professors, coaches, and peers.
What is your dream job?
My dream job is to be a pediatrician serving rural communities. I have a passion for helping kids and improving their development. I grew up in a small town in Maine that supported me in so many different ways,and I would like to use my education to give back to people like them.
What extracurricular activities or service activities do you participate in?
I work for the Maine chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, where I am involved inadvocacy and service efforts that support children and families across the state. I also tutor local high school students in calculus. I became involved in these experiences because I wanted to make a meaningful impact through hands-on service that allows me to immerse myself in the community.
What has been your favorite class?
My favorite class has been organic chemistry. I had anxiety about this subject before I started, but my professor did a wonderful job making the complex concepts clear. I really enjoy the cross-over between problem solving and chemical applications.
What has been the most interesting part of your major?
The most interesting part of my major is how the two topics, biology and chemistry, have started to intersect so much. I am getting to the point in my education where I can apply my learning to real world ideas and medical problems, which is my favorite part.
What is the greatest lesson you have learned from being a student-athlete?
I have learned the importance of finding positivity in every single situation. College has flown by, and I am making an effort to truly enjoy the rest of my time on and off the field. This is the last chunk of my life where I will get to play my favorite sport with all of my best friends, so I am going to make the most of it.
What is your favorite place on your campus?
My favorite place on campus is Commons, which is where we eat all of our meals. We only have this one dining hall at Bates, and I love it because of the sense of community it creates to have everyone together. Also, the food is amazing!
Who has been the most influential person to you during your time in college?
My parents have been the most influential people to me during my time in college. They are the first ones to pick me up when I am down, and I am so grateful for them. Both my mom and my dad have shown me the importance of hard work and perseverance, both skills that have helped me be successful at Bates.
What is something interesting about you that others might not know?
Something that people may not know about me is that I am a State of Maine Notary Public and Marriage Officiant.
What is something you enjoy doing when not in class or competing in your sport?
Whether it be studying in the quad, going for hikes, or going to the lake with my friends, I love being outside.
