NESCAC Softball Player of the Week
Anika Ewert – Bowdoin – Sr. – OF – Newport Coast, Calif.
Ewert batted .636 with a .678 on-base percentage, leading the Polar Bears to eight straight wins in Florida as the team is off to its best start since the 2007 season. In addition to collecting 21 hits in the eight games, Ewert scored 18 runs, had eight RBI, and went a perfect 17-17 in stolen bases.
NESCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week
Emily Dowd – Middlebury – Fy. – Fairfield, Conn.
In Game 2 versus St. Lawrence, Dowd went the distance, giving up just one run on four hits while striking out seven in a 6-1 victory. The complete game is the first of Dowd’s collegiate career.

Amherst –
Lauren Ro (Simi Valley, Calif.) started off the season going 6-for-8 (.750) in a 0-2 week for the Mammoths. The sophomore also had two stolen bases in the two games, both in a 4-3 loss to Ripon … Rookie
Gwen Religa (Cromwell, Conn.) did not allow a hit over 3.2 innings in her collegiate debut while walking one and striking out five batters.
Bates – Maddy Miller (Norway, Maine) went 2-for-5 at the plate in the first two games of the season for the Bobcats. The sophomore broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run home run, the first long ball of her collegiate career, in the top of the sixth against Alverno as the Bobcats went on to win 8-2. Miller also drew a walk and stole a base in the contest …
Claire Ballard (Windham, N.H.) was the winning pitcher in her collegiate debut, tossing a complete game and giving up only one earned run in an 8-2 win over Alverno. The rookie scattered six hits and struck out three in the victory.
Colby – Colby’s games last week were postponed. The Mules are back in action on March 20 versus Smith to start their Spring Break trip in Florida.
Hamilton – Senior
Alexis Mayer (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in the Continentals' season opener, a 5-2 setback against St. Norbert in Florida. Sophomore
Miranda Mosqueda (San Diego, Calif.) singled, doubled, scored two runs, and stole a base.
Middlebury –
Kristyn Carroll (Kinnelon, N.J.) registered a 4-for-7 day in the leadoff spot in a pair of wins against St. Lawrence. The outfielder was dominant in the second contest, finishing just a home run short of the cycle and knocking in one run in a 6-1 win. The senior also tallied her sixth stolen base of the campaign and is seven runs away from becoming the program’s all-time leader in runs scored …
Tufts - Tufts is in Texas for spring break games. On Sunday, sophomore
Cat Kawabe (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and senior
Heaven Oliva (Ventura, Calif.) both hit three-run home runs to power the Jumbos to a 6-3 win over Bethel University in Game 1 of a doubleheader played at Texas Lutheran University. Kawabe hit her round-tripper in the second inning, then Oliva followed with a homer in the third … First-year
Avery Kanouse (Elmhurst, Ill.) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning in Game 1 against Bethel. She improved to 3-0 on the season, allowing three hits and two earned runs in seven innings.
Wesleyan – Senior
Molly Lennon (Litchfield, Conn.) hit .481 at the plate, going 13-for-27 with nine runs scored, four doubles, one home run, and five RBI. Lennon also drew four walks and was hit by a pitch to give her a .563 on-base percentage and 1.304 on-base plus slugging percentage for the week. Playing second base, Lennon had four multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 outing with three runs, one double, and two RBI in a win over Western New England … Sophomore
Whitney Gigante (Tewksbury, Mass.) made six appearances (two starts) on the week and recorded a 0.44 earned run average in 16 innings, allowing 15 hits with six strikeouts while she went 3-0 for her first three career wins. The right-hander had a no-hitter going through 5.2 innings in a 10-2 win over Hiram, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts to earn a win.
Williams – The Ephs return to action on March 22, starting a California trip with a doubleheader at the University of Redlands.
