NESCAC Player of the Week
Scott Gyimesi – Tufts – Sr. – F – Fair Haven, N.J.
In the NESCAC Quarterfinals, Gyimesi tallied a double-double of 29 points and 13 rebounds. The senior shot 12-of-16 for the game and 3-of-5 from deep, while adding two blocks and two steals. The double-double was his 15th of the season, and his 50th of his career, as he helped Tufts to a 99-84 win over Colby College. Gyimesi is fourth in the league in scoring and leads the NESCAC in rebounding at 9.8 caroms per game.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst – Sophomore
Elias Chin (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) scored 18 points and had six rebounds and two assists in a loss to Bates in the NESCAC Quarterfinals last week.
Bates –
Peter Psyhogeos (Yarmouth, Maine) scored all 11 of his points in the second half on Saturday as the Bobcats broke a 25-25 halftime tie to defeat Amherst 70-59 in the NESCAC Quarterfinals. The senior matched his season-high with nine rebounds to pace all players on the glass. It was the Bobcats’ first win at Amherst in 35 years, and Bates advances to the NESCAC Semifinals for the first time since 2012.
Bowdoin – Sophomore
Ray Cuevas (Ipwsich, Mass.) scored 17 points in the Polar Bears’ one-point NESCAC Quarterfinal loss at Trinity. Cuevas finished the season at 22.2 points per game – the highest PPG average by a NESCAC player since Bowdoin’s Lucas Hausman in 2015 (25.3).
Colby –
Max Poulton (Wellesley, Mass.) finished his career 13th among Colby’s all-time leading scorers with 1,382 career points. Last season he became the 43rd member of the 1000-point club for the Mules. Poulton also ends his career ranked third on the all-time list for 3-pointers (245). The senior was one of four Mules in double-figures in Saturday's NESCAC Quarterfinal setback against Tufts, scoring 16 and reaching double-digits for the 69th time in his career.
Trinity –
Jared Berry (Danvers, Mass.) helped the Bantams fend off the Bowdoin Polar Bears in the NESCAC Quarterfinals, falling one point shy of matching his career-high, delivering 22 points, shooting 9-of-15 from the field with five rebounds in the 64-63 victory.
Wesleyan – Ben Lyttle (New Rochelle, N.Y.) provided a lift for the Cardinals in an 87-78 Quarterfinal win over Conn. College. The junior wing finished with a season-high 19 points to go along with 13 rebounds (5 offensive) for his second straight double-double and fourth on the season. Lyttle opened the game scoring the first eight points for the Cardinals and was a perfect 3-for-3 from the 3-point line in the contest.
