NESCAC Player of the Week
Scott Gyimesi – Tufts – Sr. – F – Fair Haven, N.J.
Gyimesi helped lead No. 21 Tufts to a pair of wins, including knocking off No. 17 WPI on Saturday. The senior forward averaged 23.0 points and 12.0 rebounds and was 19-of-29 (65.5%) from the floor on the week. On Wednesday against Clark, Gyimesi finished with 22 points, including hitting the game-winning shot with 0.1 seconds to play in a 79-77 win. He then posted another double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds in a 70-52 win over WPI.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Chris Hammond (Los Angeles, Calif.) averaged 12.0 points per game in a 3-0 week for the 10-3 Mammoths. The senior scored 20 points in a 53-45 victory over nationally-ranked Wesleyan on Sunday, shooting 8-for-12 from the field and 4-for-6 from beyond the arc while grabbing eight rebounds and not committing a turnover in 39 minutes. The guard posted a double-double in a win over Cal Lutheran, scoring 10 points with 12 rebounds and added three assists, two blocks, and 1 steal.
Bates –
Babacar Pouye (Carpinteria, Calif.) carried the Bobcats to a pair of wins with a pair of double-doubles. The junior averaged 19.0 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 3.0 blocks per game last week. Pouye tallied 23 points on 9-for-13 shooting, 16 rebounds, six assists, and two blocked shots in an 82-79 win over No. 25 Maryville on December 30. The forward poured in 25 points on 10-for-18 shooting, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out four assists, and blocked a career-high six shots in a 90-72 win over Colby on January 4. Pouye leads the Bobcats in both scoring (15.3 ppg) and rebounding (9.5 rpg) this season and is tied for first in the NESCAC in blocked shots per game at 1.6.
Bowdoin – Sophomore
Ray Cuevas (Ipswich, Mass.) averaged 19.5 points, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals, shooting 61 percent from the field (13-for-21) in a pair of Polar Bear road wins at Maine Maritime and Emerson to open the calendar year.
Colby –
Sam Hinman (Needham, Mass.) led Colby to two wins last week. The junior netted 11 points in a victory over Springfield and collected a season-high 22 points as Colby downed Oneonta. The Mules stand at 9-2 heading into conference play. Hinman is the second leading scorer on the team, averaging 12.9 points per game.
Conn. College –
James LaFrance (Guilford, Conn.) averaged 17.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game last week as the Camels went 2-1 in non-conference action. The sophomore earned a spot on the Naismith Classic All-Tournament Team while leading Conn. College to victories over SUNY Oneonta and Springfield. The guard scored 12 points with four rebounds against the Red Dragons and contributed 16 points and eight boards against the Pride. Earlier in the week, LaFrance netted a game-high 24 points in a one-point loss at Hartford, his sixth straight game of 20 or more points.
Hamilton –
Matthew Rideout (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) averaged 18.5 points and shot 50 percent (13-26) from the field, including 7-of-16 from 3-point range, in a 1-1 week for the Continentals. Rideout led Hamilton with 23 points and four steals and tied a career high with five 3-pointers in a 71-58 win against SUNY Morrisville. The junior finished with a team-best 14 points and three assists in a 69-57 setback against Illinois Wesleyan.
Middlebury –
Dominick Ducree (Schaumburg, Ill.) helped pace the Panthers to a 2-0 week, averaging 18.5 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 47 percent from 3-point range (7-for-15). The rookie shot 57 percent (8-for-14) from the field and scored 21 points in 19 minutes as Middlebury cruised to a 91-47 victory over Medgar Evers. Ducree was also tabbed to the Dr. Carol V. De Costa/Go 4 the Goal All-Tournament Team hosted by the Cougars. The Panther closed the week with 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting alongside five rebounds to push the squad to a 102-96 triumph against Lasell. Ducree’s performance helped the team to its largest offensive output since the 2018-19 season.
Trinity –
Tristan Davis (Smithtown, N.Y.) averaged 12.0 points, 7.0 rebounds in 23.2 minutes of action while shooting 68.2 percent (15-of-22) from the floor in three victories that helped the top-ranked Bantams move to 11-0 on the season. During Trinity's Holiday Tournament, Davis racked up 24 points, 14 rebounds, including six offensive boards, two steals, a block, and an assist as the Bantams won the tournament title with victories over Suffolk and Albertus Magnus. The junior followed with 12 points on a 71.4 percent clip with seven rebounds in a 97-39 win over Baruch.
Williams –
Aidan Yates (Charlottesville, Va.) scored a career-high 24 points and posted a personal-best eight made field goals, while tying a personal best with eight rebounds, in an 86-73 win over Worcester State on January 3. The sophomore shot 72.7 percent (8-for-11) from the field and 57.1 percent (4-for-7) from beyond the arc.
