NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Week
Megan Fuqua – Middlebury – Jr. – Midfield - Medfield, Mass.
Fuqua tallied a team-leading nine points to pace the Panthers to a 3-0 record to begin the 2025 campaign. The midfielder opened the season with a career-high two goals and five points in a 10-0 triumph over Vermont State University Castleton. Fuqua added a marker in a 2-1 shootout win over Hamilton before scoring the game-winning goal during the squad's 2-0 victory over No. 15 Bryn Mawr to close the weekend. The junior sits atop the NESCAC leaderboard in points (9) and goals (4).
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Molly Donegan (Wallingford, Conn.) scored two goals and added one assist as the Mammoths began the season 2-0 with wins over Springfield and Conn. College. The senior scored both goals in the victory over Springfield and then added an assist on the Mammoths' second goal in a 4-3 overtime win at the Camels.
Bates –
Amy LaBelle (Barrington, R.I.) and the No. 8 nationally ranked Bobcats are off to a 3-0 start, with LaBelle helping anchor a strong Bates defense. The junior scored her first collegiate goal on Saturday, the eventual game-winner in a 2-1 win over Trinity. LaBelle also dished out an assist on a penalty corner in the season-opener victory against Southern Maine. On top of that, LaBelle made a diving defensive save with less than four minutes remaining in Sunday’s 2-1 win over No. 17 Lynchburg.
Bowdoin – Sophomore
Hannah Balmelli (Lake Forest, Ill.) sparked a high-scoring Polar Bear offense in a pair of season-opening wins last week. Balmelli scored a hat trick on Wednesday evening in a 7-0 victory over the Univ. of New England and followed up with the Polar Bears' first goal in an eventual 3-2 victory at Colby. Balmelli scored four goals in the two games, eclipsing her first-year total of two goals in just two games.
Colby - After a scoreless first half,
Christina Sweeney's (Milton, Mass.) goal near the end of the third quarter drew Colby even with Bowdoin in an eventual 3-2 setback.
Connecticut College –
Isabella Carnall (Malvern, Pa.) played every minute in goal last week as the Camels opened the 2025 season with a 1-1 record. The rookie finished with eight saves in her collegiate debut and helped Conn. College earn a 3-2 win at Roger Williams, the program's first win in a season opener since 2013. Carnall added 11 saves against No. 16 Amherst on the first day of NESCAC play as the Camels took the Mammoths to overtime in a 4-3 setback.
Hamilton -
Isabelle Nahon (Westport, Conn.) scored the first goal of the junior defender's career in the Continentals' 2-1 shootout loss to Middlebury.
Trinity – Junior
Brooke DiBiase (Chatham, N.J.) helped the Bantams capture a 4-3 victory over Smith College, registering a pair of goals, including the game-winning tally over the Pioneers.
Wesleyan -
Audrey Pace (Los Gatos, Calif.) led the Cardinal defense in back-to-back shutout wins to start the season. Pace started with two saves in nearly 54 minutes of action as the Cardinals handed WPI a 3-0 defeat in Middletown, Conn. The senior followed with an eight-save shutout, playing the full 60 minutes in a 1-0 home win over Vassar on Saturday. Pace made four saves in a two-minute span in the first quarter when the game was still scoreless. Wesleyan was the only NESCAC team to record two shutouts last week.
Williams -
Kiki Higgins (Weston, Mass.) finished with two goals and one assist in a 2-1 week for the Ephs. The senior scored two goals, including the game-winning tally, in a 3-1 victory at Tufts on Saturday and contributed an assist in a 3-0 season-opening win over Union on Wednesday.
