LEWISTON, Maine — Bates College announced the appointment of Nadiia Usenko as the new head coach of its men's and women's squash programs. A decorated international player and rising coaching talent, Usenko joins Bates after serving as Assistant Coach at Amherst College, where she helped guide both programs to significant competitive success in the NESCAC and beyond.
"I am extremely honored and excited to serve as the next head squash coach at Bates College," said Usenko. "I want to thank the search committee and Interim Director of Athletics Will Rothermel for believing in me and offering this incredible opportunity. Bates' commitment to educating the whole person and its mission of embracing diversity, collaboration, and lifelong learning deeply resonate with my coaching philosophy. I look forward to working with our student-athletes to build a program defined by purpose, passion, and competitive excellence – one that reflects the very best of the Bates community."
A former captain and MVP at Trinity College, Usenko brings with her an elite playing background, including seven national titles as Ukrainian National Champion and a highest Professional Squash Association (PSA) world ranking of #76. Her coaching résumé is equally impressive: at Amherst, she contributed to multiple All-NESCAC selections, academic honors, and team championship finishes. She is currently completing her Master of Science in exercise & sport studies at Smith College.
"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Usenko to the Bobcat family," said Rothermel. "She brings a rare combination of international experience, academic and athletic excellence, and a deep understanding of the liberal arts model. Nadiia's leadership and vision will undoubtedly elevate our squash programs and inspire our student-athletes on and off the court."
Usenko officially begins her tenure on Monday, June 2.
